If someone has a problem with Windows and asks for advice, you must reply “I don’t have this problem because I use Linux” then wonder why everyone thinks you’re a cunt
The only thing holding me back from switching to Linux is gaming.
Nowadays you can run windows games with proton just as well if not better than on windows.
I’m thinking about tying Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is garbage and canonical are pure evil for everything they’ve done. Snaps? Garbage you need flatpaks/debs/app images.
Bro it’s easy just avoid any distro with systemd and gnome/goblin/plasma that’s why I use Trilby. It’s a molecular version of Susan.
I installed Linux mint for my Granma if she can use it anyone can. Though personally I use arch btw.
(I actually do use Linux, for anyone curious a bastardisation of Ubuntu + KDE wrangled to work on a MacBook that Apple are ditching support for… , btw)
I just installed KDE on my Ubuntu install. I wish I had explored KDE more before installing. I’m slowly wishing I had gone with Fedora’s KDE spin since so many pieces are moving so quickly right now for gaming and graphics in general. Ubuntu being feature cautious is a little annoying.
Lemmy fucking loves to just pull the handbrake and try to detail a conversation to align with their personal worldview/choices
Don’t be a dick.
Glad I don’t have one.
You don’t have to have one to act like one.
Don’t worry, it’ll grow in eventually…
When a post/comment has something that you don’t understand, don’t reply “I don’t understand”. Instead, ask specific questions, or ask the user to rephrase what they said.
People here are quicker to catch up when others use “I don’t understand, I’m so confused…” for sealioning. That’s great, but it also means that people saying “I don’t understand” to genuinely ask for further info/explanations get a lot of stray bullets.
Other stuff. Not necessarily rules, but useful if you’re a newbie.
- People here throw a hissy fit against calling communities “subreddits” or “sublemmys”.
- I personally find useful to have different accounts on different instances to discuss political and non-political stuff.
- Don’t join the no poop challenge. Or join it and regret it later.
- When picking an instance to join, check its modlog. The thing that you care the most is 1) which rules they enforce, and 2) how transparently they do it.
Since you haven’t gotten many real answers in either of your posts: be kind to your fellow humans and you’ll do well. If you’re a longer time redditor and/or mainly frequented smaller communities, you’ll do fine. If you’re newer to reddit and/or only hang out in the bigger communities maybe tone it down a touch? You can still shit post, just don’t do so from a troll’s perspective.
Like reddit, your experience can depend wildly on the community you’re engaging with.
Do keep in mind that the fediverse is tiny! Post and comment, just don’t lurk. That said, maybe try to not create two posts on basically the same topic. Also keep in mind that since this place isn’t that big, you will have people browsing all/new and all/hot that find your content and might react to it in a way that you wouldn’t expect from the people who frequent that community.
This.
…
That’s something you don’t do.
What three periods? I came from reddit so I just now put that before saying no sarcasm.
I believe they meant a comment solely containing the word
This.
As a response to a comment or post. The three dots (ellipsis) are just to separate.
And to add to the answer, the whole set of garbage regurgitated joke comments. I am glad to not see that here
Don’t forgot the proper use of “etc…”
I don’t understand it either, I think your post is fine.
It may be useful to know: I see that you received 4 other replies here, but I can’t load them. Afaik this is caused by instance blocks. Every instance has some other blocked, some less, some more, often with a reason. If you really want to read such comments you could try to look up your post on an other instance that does not block those, but you can also see (somewhere) the list of what instances have yours blocked, and you can have personal instance blocks too.
Mostly the reason for blocks is spam from that other instance, bad intentioned users possibly even ban evading when the instance does not have appropriate registration rules, and some instances have an agenda they want to shout loudly, which is often not at all friendly, and sometimes because of unwanted (porn), illegal (child porn), or relatively-dangerous-to-host (piracy) content.
The gist is that these instance blocks is often not arbitrary, but that ofc depends on your admins.
If you post I’d personally be glad if you’d not spam your post to all remotely probable communities. It will end up like maybe 50 times in everyone’s “new” feed and some would consider this as post spamming.
Beware the echo chambers.
echooooo echooo echoo
There’s a setting in your profile to auto-hide posts that you’ve voted on. Not a rule but I would recommend enabling this so you can see more posts throughout the day.
That is cool did not know that thanks for sharing…no sarcasm.
Happy to help :)
Hexbear and lemmy.ml are mostly just tankies. .ml has local censoring so some words will be censored some of ur comments and their comments wont show up due to selective modlog federation.
.world ur home server is too large i would recommend u move to another instance at some point in the future. They have also defederated a lot pf instances including the piracy instance so a more lenient instance might be better suited if u value free speach.
Other than that be generally respectfull and engage in good faith and its pretty much thw same as Reddit. Ohh also try to avoid mentioning reddit outside of the reddit communitys we dont need to keep talking about our abusing ex.
Currently on .world wasn’t aware piracy instance was defederated, any instances you would recommend as an alternative?
Im not sure if it still is they where flip flopping on it but .world has defederated a lot of instances (it does cut out a lot of the spam and toxicity). But if your like to be in charge of blocking instances communities urself then other instances might be best.
Im on lemm.ee for various reasons mainly the relaxed stance on defederation the admin seems very level headed and has extrordinarilly good uptime and servuce quality.
This post outlines a lot of said policy. https://lemm.ee/post/35472386
Dont take my word for anything tho do ur own research and think for yourself.
Thanks for the information, I’ll check it out.
I swear this place runs on burning Star Trek memes. If the feed ever dies just chuck a couple in and that should restart the engine.
Eventually, everything reverts back to Beans.
Don’t ever say anything even remotely disagreeing with the ultra-liberal left or you will be removed by an overzealous mod. Especially on world.
Many Lemmy servers aren’t in support of discussions unless they align with the server owner. I completely blocked technology after I stated I disagreed with the California trans law on an Elon Musk article. Just having an opinion was enough for a mod to label me QAnon, which I didn’t even realize was still a thing.
You can be for Palestine, LGBT rights, women’s choice, but the second you deviate from some internal monologue you’re QAnon. Honestly making me consider leaving this place. It’s too extreme.
More extreme than lets say Reddit?
