I posted on Lemmy about needing recommendations for movies to watch on shrooms…and then minutes later stumble across this article.
Talk about perfect timing, lol.
This is really starting to feel like a perfect replacement for that…other website.
I have a huge list of trippy & visual movies, tons of variety if you’re interested in picking through it for ideas: https://letterboxd.com/bee_tea/list/background-movies-for-house-parties
heavy on the sexual stuff (for house parties) but awesome list, you picked off 99% of what I’d probably go for but would add 2001, The Shining, liquid television, paprika and tron heh.
thanks for sharing inspiration!
You are actually the master of finding lists for any given scenario. I thought it was just for playlists, now I’m almost scared to know the true extent of your power 😅
aww thanks! I am definitely a list person hahahah
Monty python and the holy grail and/or life of brian.
So long as Holy Grail is first
In my Humboldt opinion, it doesn’t matter what I watch as long as I consume enough shrooms. I watched Hot Tub Time Machine the last time. It was great.
Since other people are giving trippy recommendations I would like to suggest Fantastic Fungi and The Colors Of Infinity. FF is a fantastic mushroom documentary excellently made. Colors Of Infinity is a public domain documentary about the mandelbrot set fractal. Its presented by Arthur C. Clarke and original music by David Gilmore of Pink Floyd fame. I curated a list of links to watch it and other fractal documentaries for free here.
MST3K is my goto 🍄
The new show “Scavengers Reign” reminds me of tripping a bit and is actually very good.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Pink Floyd’s The Wall
NASA+ will be available on most major platforms via the NASA App on iOS and Android mobile and tablet devices; streaming media players such as, Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV; and on the web across desktop and mobile devices.
What’s the betting it won’t be on LG’s WebOS though? 😭
My deepest sympathies to all 3 of you.
Lol you joke but that includes every LG OLED tv sold to date
Don’t most with one have a better box?
Usually yes, Plex is slow as shit but honestly iPlayer is still fantastic even on a b7 2017 oled.
That’s good; it stopped working on my aunt and uncle’s Sony (although I guess it’s a bit old now, it still works well) so had to get them a Fire stick instead.
Who will think of all the palm pre’s out there
Don’t say that… I’m planning on getting an LG
Get a streaming stick. The hardware TV manufacturers use to run their OS is generally bottom of the barrel and is sluggish as hell.
Their OLED panels are top notch, so don’t sleep on it. Just get a separate streaming device as the experience on Roku, Android TV and Apple TV is just miles better.
LG OLEDs are amazing, worth the price. Their OS is also very good compared to other TVs, I used it for years without an outside player. Now I have an Apple TV, which is better, but I still miss the LG’s magic controller.
Oh, it’s a total guarantee they won’t, ugh.
Can’t you just play it from the web?
I bit the bullet and got a Google tv with Chromecast because webos always gets left behind (and there was no homebrew YouTube alternative like smarttube on it)
If you haven’t updated the TVs software you can probably root it (rootmy.tv). The Homebrew store has ad-free YouTube.
My tv didn’t allow the exploits that currently exist, i remember trying and failing. That’s why I ended up with just using something externally. Shame, i enjoyed the magic remote
We know it’s ad-free and zero cost, but will it be DRM-free as well?
I’m not sure if US government IP is legally allowed to be DRM’d.
Not only is it not allowed to be DRM’d, “US government IP” is itself an oxymoron: stuff published by the government is Public Domain, so it doesn’t even count as “intellectual property [sic]” to begin with.
Yeah, it’s paid for by taxpayers, so it’s all fair use.
Edit: I realize from the replies that my point was off base and actually opposite of the debate here. I’m going to leave this in its place, but thanks to the responders that showed me this wasn’t the right place to make the point I was trying to.
Govt research grants are not videos literally being published by the govt. They aren’t particularly comparable siuations. It’s why I can’t just buy a stock of Disney and suddenly have free access to their IP. Meanwhile I can rehost whole programs put out by NASA with zero issue.
I get the anger and it’s justified, but man is it misdirected here.
Yes, thank you. You gave a more detailed answer than I did.
Thank you. I agree and I’ve updated my comment. 🙂
No, I was specifically talking about their media content. Pictures, videos, etc.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a majority of the content is already freely downloadable from somewhere…
If it’s called NASA Plus, how is it free? The “plus” means it goes a step beyond their free content and into a paid tier.
Don’t get me wrong this is absolutely fantastic I adore NASA and space, but they’re just be some hidden cost? Otherwise it wouldn’t be a streaming service called NASA Plus, right?
The “plus” means it goes a step beyond their free content and into a paid tier.
Notepad++ enters the chat
Looks like they refer to adding their Science wing into the streaming, too.
In this crazy capitalist world peiple started forgetting that public services can be free, like, for real :D
*Paid for with taxes, not free.
That goes without saying.
It’s free for the end consumer and everyone knows that it is paid with taxes. So saying free is just easier.
Everyone knows that… that’s what they mean by free, free to use. Why do you think people don’t know this? Did you just figure it out or something? Are you seriously that slow?
I don’t think everyone sat down and agreed to that being what plus means. It’s like labeling food as organic, it means nothing. It’s just a name. Odd thing to obsess over, you’ll get nowhere trying to understand marketing people, just let it go.
What they are adding is a more condensed experience accessing NASA content and making it easier for casual viewers to access. The more people paying attention to science the better. I think this is a fantastic move from NASA
Why do you think the organic label for food means nothing?
https://www.usda.gov/media/blog/2012/03/22/organic-101-what-usda-organic-label-means
You realize I can slap the word organic on anything, and it isn’t using the certified organic label… right? Want some “organic ATX motherboards?” I gotchu.
If you’re not afraid of the legal system why not slap a Disney logo on there too?

What other “plus” apps have a non plus version though? Stone Disney+ it’s just become “the thing” that streaming services go by now
Disney had a several tv channels and an app that was free for subscribers when they launched Disney+ but I don’t know if they still have the old app.
The “free” apps require a cable subscription, so they aren’t really free.
Sure, maybe “included for subscribers” is probably a better description.
Mauve for this you’ll need to have an account? This would already help nasa market products towards you and this is a good value they can get without you paying anything.
Mauve you’re right, mauve you’re not, mauve I’ll see for myself.
*Previously on Desperate Spacewives…
Sam has just kicked out of the airlock apartment by his wife Karen. Would his other woman save him from radiation and lack of oxygen? Tune in to this episode of Desperate Spacewives
Nice
Gotta love some american propaganda.
Are you not familiar with NASA TV? It’s pretty interesting at times with science updates on their exploration programs like the Mars rovers and JWST. They also broadcast EVA’s and have interviews with people working in Mission Control and elsewhere. I like it a lot.
I am familliar i love it damn cool shit and impressive engineering. Its important that while enjoying it that u dont forget its a tool to promote american propoganda and scientific exeptionalism
Space is the only place where Russia and America are friends. Nasa only cares about politics as far as they need to to keep their funding. And even then they generally opt for less politics even when it means less funding.
The only “politics” NASA plays is to advertise to the public how great the things they’re doing are because the more public support, the more funding they get.
And nobody should be against that. Everything NASA does is toward scientific progress. The amazing things they’ve done on their miniscule budget should be lauded and they should be given a much higher proportion of the US budget than they are currently afforded.
