I feel like that’s the path we’re on. Because of people’s blind hatred towards a rich douche, an entire EXTREMELY IMPORTANT industry is becoming reviled through sheer ignorance.

I work in a manufacturing company that was owned by the founder for 50 years until about 4 years ago when he retired. He disagreed with a lot of the ideas behind lean manufacturing so we had like 5 years worth of inventory sitting in our warehouse.

When the new management came in, there was a lot of squawking about inefficiency, how wasteful it was to keep so much raw material on the shelf, and how we absolutely needed to sell it off or get rid of it.

Then a funny little thing happened in 2020.

Suddenly, we were the only company in our industry still churning out product. Other companies were calling us, desperate to buy our products or even just our raw material. We saw MASSIVE growth the next two years and came out of the pandemic better than ever. And it was mostly thanks to the old owners view that “Just In Time” manufacturing was BS.

The real answer is that bathroom scales have god awful precision and accuracy.

I am too small to make a difference, unable to convince others in my life to join, and the companies I want to boycott have grown so big that their brands are everywhere and it’s exhausting to try to keep track of them all. Plus, boycotts are pretty ineffective these days. Even in the most extreme cases, companies now know they only have to wait ~2-3 months before the masses stop caring and move on to something else.

Now I just live my life. I support causes I believe in, try to treat everyone I meet with kindness and respect, and do what I can to give myself and my family a happy, comfortable life. That’s all I can do, it may not be enough to save the world, but it’s enough to save me and those I love

Funnily enough that would push a lot more people into the Healthcare Marketplace (Obamacare) which is often better than healthcare offered through work, depending on your circumstances. Then we might get more people asking why we don’t just switch to socialized medicine and be done with it.

It is technically a movie, sure. But more accurately, it’s the conclusion to a show that’s been on the air for almost 20 years. It’s not a movie made to stand on it’s own. Posting it to a movie sub makes as much sense as posting about ancient Roman senators in a politics sub. It’s technically politics, but you’re not going to get very meaningful discussion because it’s not what people go there for. The only people who would watch this movie are fans of the show, and even if a non-fan watched it, why would I give a shit about their opinion of it? They aren’t going to get it.

Lemmy is getting there but it’s still not a great replacement, especially when it comes to niche topics. For example, the Venture Bros movie came out recently and I wanted to discuss it with other fans, but there’s no place on lemmy for that; or if there is, I have been unable to find it. Meanwhile the Venture Bros subreddit has 3 different megathreads. I’m keeping my reddit account around for things like that until lemmy grows a bit more.
