If Republicans truly saw companies hiring illegal immigrants as an issue, they’d be able to easily crack down on business owners doing the hiring and make the punishment more than just a slap on the wrist.

No, the cruelty towards other humans is the point. They don’t care about the non-existent issue.

Greetings from Germany. Maybe you want to skip everything that happens from now on and end this before this lunatic takes office.

On a unrelated topic: aren’t you the nation with the most guns?

aren’t you the nation with the most guns?

Yes, and ownership is predominantly with those who want to kill/ deport immigrants. In the US, there are ~120.5 guns per 100 people. However, this statistic is misleading, because you might expect most people to have 1 gun, and a few people to have more than one to get to that statistic. However, most households do not have a fire arm.

So the average gun-owner, actually owns from 4-8 guns, while the majority of Americans own 0 guns. We have a culture of gun-obsessed rightwing psychopaths.

The majority of voters who cast a valid ballot voted for him, what do you even do with those people? You get rid of their leader, another take their place. The military took an oath to the constitution, that included recognizing the results of elections, regardless of if they are a fascist. The US isn’t a Defensive Democracy like modern day Germany, we aren’t getting rid of them until the next election, that is, if there ever is a next election.

Trump has cult of personality, it will implode without him. Vance is an empty suit, RFK is nuts and sounds horrible, Musk is Saxon African Chris chan. My point is once Trump is dead most of his movement will most likely go static.

Who the fuck knew we are going to see the fall of America in our lifetimes. The only thing I hope for at this point is strong Europe.

No one thinks major downward shifts will happen in their lifetime…until they do. Our great shame is that we voted for it.

Writing’s on the wall. We’re squarely on the path of decline.

Only thing to debate now is the timeline.

I remember pointing out to my 8th grade social studies teacher that most countries don’t get to exist for over 200 years, especially after they have a massive civil war.

Many European countries that we know today didn’t exist in their current form that long ago and had a major war preceding the establishment of that nation. Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg were formed in 1815 and Kingdom of Belgium 1830 before they were always subjects of a bigger empire or kingdom. Unification of Italy 1871 when Rome was finally captured and French Republic formed in 1792, France’s latest form is the Fifth Republic established in 1958. Germany only unified in 1866 before that time it was a bunch of smaller states and kingdoms, then after 1919 became the Weimar Republic, Federal Republic of Germany in 1949 and then fall of the wall in 1989. Independence of Greece 1821. Those examples aren’t the only ones and don’t forget the western Balkans, those nations were all formed in the 90’s.

It’s not that the country of America will disappear after a civil war but it might not be called the USA anymore.

The comment I was replying to stated that countries don’t get to exist beyond 200 years. There are several countries that exist way beyond the 200 year mark, many of them much longer.

Pick up a history book to find out where it goes from here.

      Yup.

Obviously that’s not an option for the vast majority. But if you have the means, then there are absolutely 1st world countries where you can live a longer, healthier, less stressful life where you are afforded more rights.

This ship is sinking. Maybe slowly, but definitely sinking.

    Canuck here.

Doesn’t the Posse Comitatus Act prohibit the use of military (other than National Guard and Coast Guard) for this purpose?

I see they can be used but only if the Insurrection Act is invoked (might be other ways but that’s the one that came up most frequently in my searches).

Presidents are now immune from prosecution for basically anything they do in an official capacity thanks to the corrupted Supreme Court. So who’s going to stop him? Even if Congress makes a new, specific law against it with dire consequences, he’s putting loyalists in law enforcement and the courts can’t enforce the law when the highest one will overturn any ruling because of that interpretation.

Yeah that’s the scary and totally MESSED UP thing. I really hope there are some good folks in the US armed forces that will resist and go by the book. But I’m not holding my breath.

All we can do at this point is wait and see what happens.

And all of the military stationed at the border will be turned around to keep people in once Trump moves on from immigrants to trans people, or some other group who will be forced to flee the country to avoid being put in the concentration camps that will be empty and need people to keep the prison companies’ profits up.

My hope is that once all the farm/meat packing workers get deported, we realize that we don’t have any food left. After a few months of being vegetarian, the red-meat eating conservatives will back-track and finally open up a legal path for all those workers to be here.

The problem I haven’t seen anyone address is where you deport them to. In Korea, people would enter and then throw away their passport, and refuse to say which country they came from. Even if you did DNA testing, you wouldn’t be able to tell with 100% confidence. If mass deportations start, I highly suspect this will become a major issue.
