I genuinely want to catch an IMAX showing before it is too late. It’s like being able to watch the Hindenburg disaster in person.
Any idea on what the movie is actually about? I saw an interview with Aubrey Plaza where they asked her and she gave a very vague answer.
The professional reviews are hilariously mixed, I’m pretty sure Coppola unwittingly made a movie that also serves as a litmus test to see how pretentious and up your own ass you are.
The honest reviews are basically, this made no sense, I don’t know what he was thinking. The positive reviews can be boiled down to “if you have to ask, you’re not sophisticated enough to understand”.
Is it more or less pretentious than Tennet?
The reception of it appears to be, but prob only because Coppola is seen as more prestigious by critics because he never made a batman movie.
I don’t think Batman makes Nolan any less prestigious. It might even make him moreso, if only because of The Dark Knight. He was able to pour even more money into whatever he wanted to after that.
He’s still one of the few directors that have full control over their movies.

I don’t either, but the critics that love art house movies prob do.
My point is the art house people love the dark Knight too.
Apart from sound design, I had no problems with Tennet. Insomnia was more pretentious.
That’s definitely a new take.
Tenet was fucking cool as shit, call it what you want, person who probably never made a movie.
What movie did you make?
Or are you the only one that’s eligible to have an opinion?
All the ones I’m shitting on in this thread.
Ah so you’re the only person allowed to have an opinion, and no one else can. Cuz you’re special, right?
And as is typical the truth is somewhere in the middle.
my kind of movie! ye of dimwit status be warned.
it’s a retelling of the fall of rome set in modern new york city.
it’s alright, wow platinum (plaza) was amazing.
That sounds interesting. I feel like that tiny but of context would probably draw more people to see it. Not sure why they kept it all mysterious.
i think the trailer makes it pretty obvious. i feel like people are making more analogies to trump and musk that are kinda ridiculous. it’s like how populist characters in film used to be compared to Julius Caesar; like sure that’s apt but also stfu and listen to the story.
also plazas ass is so nice.
because you don’t feed the viewer biases. like good music, it can be interpreted in many ways. let the viewer decide for themselves. if the viewer is too dimwitted to draw their own conclusion, then let them fuck off as dimwits should.
Nope
i saw it yesterday, it was great.
the movie makes it clear the story is a fable and that’s what it is.
It’s okay to be wrong /s
But seriously, I’m glad you liked it. I have no horse in this stable
I feel like everyone hating it means it’s good.

Hmm, I hadn’t really noticed those comparisons yet.
Plaza is about the hottest lady of all time honestly.
Edit: someone downvoted this. What a douche.
settings has an option to remove downvotes from the UI.
if someone isn’t willing to attach their username to their displeasure then I don’t care.
nah. I like calling people out for giving the single downvote they use as the “I disagree with you” button as if it matters.

Dude, that was me. It was precoffee and I fat fingered the vote buttons lol
Good to know that someone was not offended at the idea that Aubrey Plaza is a goddess haha
Are you watching Agatha? She’s full on sexy witch hag in it.
i haven’t read any reviews but some friends also saw it and made the comparison.
Most people haven’t seen it and jump on whatever the most popular are saying.
exactly
i can’t wait to see it. they don’t make good movies any more. this might be the exception.
Coppola might be one of the last great filmmakers left. I fear there won’t be any good movies ever made again after he and a few others pass away. It seems there is no good taste left in younger generations.
This has to be the most pretentious thing I’ve read all day.
i mean, you feel attacked, so of course you respond this way
Aren’t you the one feeling attacked buttercup ?
I enjoyed Megalopolis but I won’t pretend it’s absolutely amazing and perfect. It’s a mess, but it’s a beautiful mess that was entertaining and thought provoking. What you’re complaining about isn’t a problem of the younger generations, but of the studio execs pumping out Movie Product after Movie Product
That’s basically what every positive review I’ve seen said- “it’s a mess of a movie but I liked it anyway.”
it takes people to make it profitable
Coppola might be one of the last great filmmakers left.
On the other hand…
Also-
That one was such a piece of shit, Coppola didn’t even put his name on it.
“This movie forced us to update our site’s code to account for decimals in the rating system.”
Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis is an impenetrable mess that cinephiles will feel obligated to see anyway.
One reviewer went right for the throat.
I quite like what Richard Roeper said:
Francis Ford Coppola sold off one of his wine companies in order to secure a $120 million line of credit to finance his dream project “Megalopolis.”
With all great respect: You were better off with the Pinot Noir, sir.
Wow Platinum? Isn’t that Warcraft’s new gold-for-money currency?
Go back to the clurrrrrrb
