[T]he President will be self-isolating in accordance with CDC guidance for symptomatic individuals

Is that still the guideline? I know several people who have gotten COVID recently and just went about like normal, like people used to do when they were sick pre-pandemic. I told one of them they were morons, but they claimed you don’t have to isolate any more since the CDC changed their guidelines.

Well that may be it since he said he’d step aside for a medical condition.

But since COVID isn’t all that threatening in most cases I doubt he’ll consider that a condition.

      I don’t know man.

I had COVID like 7 months ago, and that headache was so god damn bad, I thought my head was gonna explode.

Imagine the worst tension headache you’ve ever had in your life and it won’t go away even with a thousand milligrams of Tylenol. I couldn’t imagine going through that at eighty one years old

This was the most memorable thing about covid for me besides the fatigue. I rarely get headaches but it gave me the worst headache of my life for a solid week.

Really? I had COVID three times but no major headaches. I wasn’t feeling well for 2-3 days, but otherwise it was pretty mild.

Except, the first two cases were then both followed by about 4 months of total depression. That sucked. Just based on that experience I’m still pretty terrified of COVID, though thankfully the third time I didn’t have that.

It affects different people in different ways.

I had zero headache, a runny nose (but only my right nostril), was a bit fatigued, and thirsty like a man in the desert for a 1,000 days. These lasted 3 days, the mild fatigue about a week.

Hell of a birthday week that was!

The DNC is planning of formally nominating the democratic ticket on August 5, which does not leave much time to pick a replacement (even if the replacement is vice president Harris).

The August 5 date was picked back when everyone thought the nomination was a mere formality, in order to comply with an August 7 deadline from Ohio. Ohio, for its part, has pushed the deadline back to September, but I don’t think the DNC wants to risk a ballot challenge making it’s way to the Supreme Court.

Jesus christ! If Biden drops out we might trully be fucked now, specially now that it’s clear as day that Kennedy is working with Trump to take votes away from Biden in order to help Trump win. It would take a fucking miracle to get someone with so much energy and sufficiently known to stand against Trump.

Sorry for my pesism, but I really see things very bleak come November.

We’ve all seen the debate. Biden was already losing in the polls before October 7th. Then the whole rift over Palestime happened, the disastrous debate, Trump getting shot at. It’s a train wreck and Democrats are in denial about their own chances. I want Trump to lose which means I want the Democrats to put up their best candidates and not some frail old guy. That debate should have them panicking. He shouldn’t have run at all. He should have made more work of setting up his successor in the first place.

Many people have watched the two five second clips and are ignoring his performance over the first term.

You listed the debate twice, I assume once for each clip since all of those arguments are irrelevant.

Biden has been an active and progressive president and despite funny five-second clips, tgere’s every reason to reelect for Biden.

Debates shouldn’t have anyone panicking, debates are clown shows for the masses that have nothing to do with the administration of the presidency.

And it’s insane that you’re talking about polls after the last 8 years.

Biden should be re-elected because of his solid policies on student debt, civil rights, sustainable technology and critical infrastructure

I’m a politics junkie, don’t throw me in with the general public. I watched the entire thing. I’ll watch commentary and listen to podcasts about politics at least two hours a day, every day.

But what he’s done is not the point. I’m talking about his chances in November and they are not hopeful.

The debate was a disaster not because he fumbled his words a bit. It is because for years Trump has been calling Biden this weak old senile man, Sleepy Joe, etcetera, and everyone on the Democratic side was able to pass it off as Trump exaggeration and trolling.

But in the debate, suddenly there was no denying it. Biden is losing it. Now those Trump jabs actually hurt because we know there’s a truth to it. The whole world watched as Biden was asked a question on abortion (which should be central in his campaign, a sure winner after Roe v Wade was killed) and shot himself in the foot turning it into a story about illegal immigrants coming in and raping young women.

How do you fuck up like that. And how do you recover. I don’t want Biden to give it his best shot, I want him to halt this slide into fascism and he’s failing at it

“what he’s done is not the point”

Yes, it is the point. The very fact you don’t understand that is the problem

Biden is an old man and fumbled his words, it has no bearing on the legislation he’s produced during his first term at a rapid pace for progressive policies.

His consistently progressive presidential policies and tangible results are what matters

If he loses November he can’t deliver any of those tangible results. Of course policy matters, but getting elected is important too.

Elections are won on getting people to turn up and vote for you, simple as. If independents stay home because they can’t bring themselves to vote for an 81 year old showing signs of dementia, he’s gonna lose.

Independents are independents because they care about the issues, they’re not going to be as confused as many are by discerning YouTube clips vs. active achieved Biden legislation.

Biden has consistently proved himself by achieving legislation Americans care about.

What you’re talking about are party voters who watch 5 second clips on YouTube and believe conglomerate groupthink headlines.

By and large, they are going to vote for the party they’ve adhered to.

I’m fine with an old person sounding like an old person as long as the work they do is solid.

Biden is equally mentally old as Trump, which is immaterial to biden being fit for office in this election and obvious from his first term.

Biden has been a great president who enacted consistent progressive policies, while Trump consistently hurt hundreds of millions of people and damaged the US.

Biden is certainly fit to be president again, and Harris can take over during the second term if anything happens.

Biden was trailing in polls when he beat Trump 4 years ago.

Nancy pelosi has been making bad decisions for the past pretty-much-her-whole-career, it’s crazy that people keep pointing to her as some source of legitimate news.

It’s because you know her name and she’s semi-famous, there’s no other reason for you to name her as a source of credibility or judgment.

She’s a selfish politician that makes terrible policy choices.

She’s making a terrible choice now as well, and if she believes polls marking biden a couple percent below Trump are of any practical value, she’s as deluded as everybody else who believes them.

It’s so obvious the conservatives are spreading misinformation like they always do and you and pelosi are believing them, again.

And just earlier he said he could drop out if a medical issue came up. Maybe this is it.

Here’s a tweet from after the notorious debate where he messed up, and claimed afterwards that he had a cold:

So the 81 year old president has been lying about COVID since the debate?

Or are you saying the presidential doctor Biden picked is this incompetent they just ran a COVID test?

I mean. He did an interview right after the debate, he talked about an illness but gave like three conflicting answers, and none of them mentioned COVID.

I’m saying it is more likely they knew he had COVID but thought cancelling / delaying would be a bad political move, and now are announcing it because it might achieve the opposite, concern and understanding.

This also might be a prelude to him stepping down in favor of another candidate or Harris.

So I think it’s more likely it was known, and this is a calculated release of information.
