They have also removed a bottle of booze off my deliveroo order, so you all can have an extra for me. >:(

Good luck!
Remember these wise words:

What’s the thesis topic?
The folding of Thorn Displays in Monroe? Doesn’t make sense to me
gets stabbed
According to “explain xkcd”, its “The Evolution of Threat Display in Mammals”
Congratulations because this sounds big not because I understand what a PhD thesis is. Sounds smart asf tho
I come back to say congratulations once again, because what you did was amazing! Congratulations!! Tell us we we can start to call you Dr.Fossilesque :-)
Woah! Congratulations!!! 🥳 🎉
Now enjoy a little bit of coasting before the next level drudgery begins!
I miss the pre deposit days sometimes, but there was like 6 or 8 weeks after submitting where it just seemed like things were done and accounted for and that was kind of the best IMO.
Edit:
Oh shoot you said submitted and I was thinking deposited. Yeah you’re in for the shitty part next 😂. Just remember that your committee doesn’t know where the bodies are buried, only you do and it all still counts!
Congrats! What did you write your thesis on?
How people have been fucking up nature for 10k years lmao.
I look forward to the meme translation of your thesis
Amazing! “Ma thèse en 180 secondes” has reach another level.

This is an exciting pitch, and an ominous one too.
Save the Wooly Mammoth before it’s too late!
the columbian mammoth is the last of the mammoths to die out about 13kyears ago, very recent, by insular dwarfism in channel islands of CALIFORNIA. fun fact mammoths are more related asian elephants than african bush elephants/forest. ELEPHAS vs loxodon.

Didn’t we likely play a significant role in the extinction of megafauna all over the world much sooner than that?
Amazing topic!
Too bad there won’t be anyone left alive to remember your hard work. But thanks, still.
I’ve unironically still got hope. I think we live in a really cool time.
I hope you’re an archaeologist and not a paleontologist.
Otherwise we got beef
I’m both.
username checks out
Seems like an easy subject. Just saying.
I’m more like people looking at people looking at dirt though. Once you go anthropology, it’s hard to go back.
I don’t mean to imply your job with writing your thesis on it is easy, the proof needed would be no easy task.
But it’s hard to flip through a history book and stop on any page, and not find something on the page that’s harmful to nature.
Proving that it’s harmful would be the part that’s hard. Finding the occurrences of harm is easy.
Whoa! Congrats!

Das rite .
Congrats!!! You did it! That’s awesome!!
I tried anyway.
This is a precursor to defending your thesis, right? I don’t mean to discourage, I’ve just been away from academia for a few too many years and my memory is getting rusty on the order of operations.
Regardless, it’s a massive milestone and I commend your commitment to humanity’s knowledge in the strongest possible terms.
In most places the defense is kind of just a formality. It’s an important part of the ritual and the process, it’s important to present your work, but nobody should be submitting unless they’re definitely going to pass the defense, or else their supervisor has really failed them
My thesis is still in a next to finished draft state but I am a perfectionist who ran out of time so my boss was like, just fix it for the post defence submission.
It’s good if your examiners have a few easy things to pick up, makes them feel useful and stops them from finding nonsense just to have something to criticise ;)
Haha, there’s plenty to criticise, not too worry. 😂😂😂
Good luck I hope its well received and contains no em dashes.
Lmao there’s definitely some llm placeholder captions they’ll have to forgive me on.
Ah, in that case I hope you have your current degrees rescinded.
What do you mean, I use them all the time
AI uses the Em dash at an extremely high frequency compared to a normal human, because it’s common in literature before the age of computers for writing documents and the AI are trained on literature.
Yes, but the conventions about when to use normal, en, and em dashes persist. When writing documents in LaTeX, you simply use -, --, or — depending on which dash you want (and there are linters warning you about using the wrong kind of dash). Are you suggesting I should use the wrong kind of dash on purpose, just because AI uses the right kind of dash? We might as well start spelling words wrong on purpose then
It’s unfortunate that we live in a world where AI is costing us, but that’s the fact of it.
Don’t you mean you use th— all the time?
Excellent! You can be proud of your accomplishment. Make sure to connect with loved ones and to find a time-consuming hobby in order to avoid the post-thesis depression.
lmao I have so much work to do now. it never ends!!
should only take three years after this
cries that I have to now turn these into papers
Hell yeah! What’s your research about?

AND logic?
Machine learning?
That would have been easier lol.
I mean I’m taking a class on machine learning and … well … on the one hand it’s supposed to be a “rigorous” theoretical class, and the project at least is going to actually be that because I get to choose the topic and I’m obviously gonna make it mathematically rigorous … but on the other hand, my professor keeps saying “ask the LLMs for more details about the derivations I’m teaching you” 😭😭😭😭😭. I guess he decided teaching students real analysis is hard and ChatGPT is easy. And the lecture notes have literally zero references so I’m completely on my own 😭😭😭😭😭
My environmental proxies have been a conundrum for machine learning (I’m pretty sure why, writing a grant on that), so I can sympathise. I have some tools for you, if you’d like for me to share. Dm me and I’ll send you a bunch of stuff when I’m less inebriated.
Was supposed to be DM lol
I love how you summed up at least 75% of science. I’m in this picture and… I have mixed feelings!
Just because I’m a pedantic little academic: if you know how your data is crap, you can make an extra shiny model that doesn’t give only crap outputs
