I’ve been using a 3rd party client to access posts on Lemmy. I loved the experience back when Reddit allowed 3rd party apps. But I felt the feed was a bit…one sided.

I figured it was just because I was new to Lemmy, but then I sorted posts by New.

Nothing but trans anime porn. It’s like the only people that came to Lemmy were the people that got kicked out of Reddit circles because all they could think about was trans anime porn.

Maybe I signed up on the wrong instance? But I don’t think that’s the problem.

How are so many people trying to treat Lemmy as a balanced alternative to Reddit?

What the fuck?!

OP’s comment history is full of antagonism and bad takes. So many of their comments have exclamation points!!! I have a feeling they’re a bit lost on things and/or they don’t want to admit to the means by which they are seeing this content that they claim to be repulsed by. Blocking is free, and I suggest doing to major sources of bad vibes.

Have your main account set to filter out NSFW to avoid that content. Also, there is absolutely no shortage of that content on reddit lmao. At least when I was there anyway.

It’s been months since I blocked all the individual instances that post things like that, I never see it. But yeah not surprised it’s still there. Lemmy blocklists should be a thing, would make the new user experience much more endurable. Last I checked I have over 800 communities blocked and dont miss any of them.

You must be using the All Trans Anime Porn All the Time app.

I just use Firefox for Android and sort by New by default and I don’t recall seeing any trans anime porn. Ever.

I make liberal use if the Lemmy feature of blocking users/communities/instances.

I noticed the same thing as you—so much kinky shit when browsing All. I mostly don’t care what gets people off but I don’t need to see it in my feed. Eventually, I found that it was easiest to block entire instances where that stuff is prevalent. It’s not like you’ll miss anything important.

Same with communities and users. If I know a community isn’t going to interest me, I block it from All. If a user bothers me enough that I recognize the name, I block them.

It’s just better this way. You’re not missing much by blocking. Your time and attention is better spent on the things that matter to you.

Honestly, it’s kind of obnoxious that you’re inundated with porn by default in “all”. I mean, it’s fine if people are into that, but it’s not necessarily what every user wants to deal with blocking when the are a new user. Some might just erroneously assume the whole platform is just a porn site and leave if that isn’t what they want. I have blocked a shitton of porn communities because I’m not interested in that, but there are a hell of a lot of them. I’m glad instance blocking became a thing because prior to that I had a zillion communities blocked.

Would just nice for the default to be different is all. I get why some people are immediately super turned off by using Lemmy because of stuff like that.

Again, I’m not trying to say porn is necessarily bad, but it’s a bit jarring when that’s not what you came here for and when it’s not what the platform is “advertised” as. It’s like if Grandma tries to join Facebook to stay connected to people but when she first logs in there’s just porn all over her feed. Obviously that doesn’t happen there. I’m just trying to paint a picture.

OP’s “karma”/reputation score, visible from Mbin instances, is at -1435. I think it’s safe to assume that OP does not intend to be taken seriously.

Have you tried not subscribing to those communities?

The main difference with Reddit is Reddit excludes all NSFW and quarantined subs from the all feed, Lemmy doesn’t. So if your instance federates with porn instances yeah, the all feed is gonna suck.

Mine isn’t that way at all. My feed is always set to “All”, and it’s a diverse range of discussions.

My home feed is “all”, sorted by “hot”(weird i know but its a good way to find communities to sub to). I dont usually see nsfw, but I have seen some trans memes, sfw yuri and a instance dedicated to middrift which is kind of nsfw but has no parts showing. If i dont like what im seeing i just block the instance. But it hasnt happened alot. Mostly just news articles and current events though.

I’d imagine the typical Lemmy user to be an American college/university student. I haven’t personally noticed any trans leaning in the content here but anime/hentai definitely is disporpotionately represented.
