Kindles are cheap. That’s pretty much it. I don’t think it’s a great mystery. Amazon subsidizes their hardware to get you into their ecosystem even more.

I remember when Snapchat was extremely popular for messaging. One of the worst apps I’ve ever used. Just an absolutely atrocious UI.

Yessir I’ve basically run into all of that. It’s fucking infuriating. It really is like talking to a toddler at times. There seems to be a limit to the complexity of what it can process before it just starts messing everything up. Like once you hit its limit, it will not process the entire thing no matter how many times you fix it together like your example. You fix one problem and then it just forgets a different piece. FFFFFFFFFF.

Dude forgetting stuff has to be one the most frustrating parts of the entire process . Like forgetting a column in a database or just an entire piece of a function you just pasted in… Or trying to change things you never asked it to touch. So freaking annoying. I had standing instructions in it’s memory to not leave out pieces or modify things I didn’t ask for and will put that stuff in the prompt and it just does not care lol.
I’ve used it a lot for coding because I’m not a real programmer (more a code hacker) and need to get things done for a website, but I know just enough to know it’s really stupid sometimes lol.
I’m split on this. On the one hand if they didn’t have self checkout, they’d need more checkout people. On the other hand, before self checkout they didn’t really give a fuck if you had to wait in line (especially Walmart holy shit that was one of the biggest reasons I never went there, the fucking checkout line).
Most systems these days do rewrites (like Apache mod_rewrite) to keep the query parameters out of the URL. Even for pagination. It’s not necessarily on by default though because they don’t know what environment you’re in so you need to do things to enable it (like copy a .htaccess file and enable it in settings).
I don’t know these idiot board members think is going to happen after blocking the vote. It’s going to go MORE viral now and they’ll get voted out even harder.
Article talked about that some here: https://nypost.com/2025/07/12/us-news/arizona-homeowner-david-martin-fined-100-repeatedly-for-giving-out-free-water-in-heat-amid-clash-with-hoa/
Big difference here is that Windows doesn’t REQUIRE developers to use the windows store or still pay them money if they use other methods of payment. Anyone can download an installer and install software without the Windows store and Microsoft doesn’t make developers pay them still to do that.
Now if they could get away with it they absolutely would like on Xbox. That’s why Valve put so much effort into Linux.
If it’s any consolation I don’t think any of them I’ve run into REQUIRE Internet to use them as a dumb screen. I wouldn’t buy one that did either. Lol.
Most TVs are dumb if you never hook them up to the Internet. I don’t allow my OLEDs on the Internet generally and simply use a different device to stream and do all the things (webOS is actually pretty cool but LG is obnoxious like this sometimes). Even if your TV is good enough, this shit happens anyway. At least if my shield gets obnoxious, I can replace it with a different device.
Same. First time trying because they were insanely cheap. They’re also disgusting. Way too much fake sugar.

What are you referencing specifically? I work in payments and I’ve never heard of this IBM code. The card networks just use an ISO format and every front end is different (the two we have are completely different in very fundamental ways though they are definitely both old as fuck).

I assure you they won’t. It’s not going to be that expensive to only show an option if you’re in California. Companies already do this with other things like privacy related stuff.
If the company is already a scumbag company that makes it impossible to cancel, this will only stop them where they have to follow a law.

Kind of the old Windows vs Mac problem though. It gets so many exploits because it is so ridiculously popular. No one is going to bother looking for exploits in shit that no one uses right? I’m sure they’ve got problems like any project but I’m not convinced they’re THAT bad. Not to mention a lot of exploits you see are plugins doing dumb shit, not WP itself.

Yeah I think the ruling was garbage too but I’m getting tired of the overly dramatic hot takes on this everywhere. Nuance is dead.

Right. We should let the guy who said he’d kill the Palestinians even harder win. That’ll show Biden!

I cancelled. It’s just that I’m a small minority of people. The number that cancelled was apparently less than the people who signed up for their own account. Oh well. Netflix wasn’t that good anymore anyway. I barely used that app. Disney Plus however I’m not going to cancel. That one is worth it to me.

It’s still running too. I also have a 2009 (Spectra) and I think it might outlast my 2016 Optima. Sucks because for a while there, they made really great reliable cars. Now who even knows. Not all their cars suck but mine has an unlimited warranty now because of a class action and how shitty the engine in this car is so that’s not very promising.
Our Democrat governor signed it. Why she signed this I still don’t really understand. She’s been using her veto power quite a bit and yet this one gets to go through. Ridiculous.
