  • True. I don’t really know what people listen to these days but my once best friend went into a spiel regarding the whole bud light issue and it was so absurd I just finally said hey you have some major insecurity issues. And left.

Like trans people just popped up out of nowhere… victims of the liberal media!

But I do honestly believe insecurity is a large driver of hate. Hey i like you whoever you are as long as you aren’t being an asshole. That’s pretty much as far as my judgment goes. Pretty simple!

  • It seems like it would but the pivpn install script always hangs on me whether i I select openvpn or wireguard. Based on some reading I was lead to believe I needed to just use raw openvpn for a TAP interface. I’ve tried a few times but I always end up with CA issues or just flat out failure to connect.

It should be pretty simple, I’m just trying to bridge my network to a single remote device connected via cellular gateway. Maybe I’m just out of my depth. I’ve done it before with an old NAS years ago but I’ve tried a few step by step guides and no dice.

If you have any tips that’d be great!

  • That’s great you rescued her. And if you can rub the belly that means 100% trust. Not that mine don’t trust me… some just don’t like it. One of mine does, the other gets confused and flips over so I rub topside and the other nutcase just seems to find great amusement in setting a trap.

Interesting about the food. Mine won’t tolerate a low food bowl… they get super nutty when that happens. My primary 2 share an always full of healthy food bowl. While they eat the same amounts one is super skinny and the other obese. It would be impossible to try and separate their diets so as long as they are active, healthy and happy I see no reason to change it up. But I’m noting the spoon trick if it should ever be needed!

I hope your rescue brings you happiness for your efforts. :) I’ve always found cats complex and often annoying but they have a way of being quite loving… when It suits them anyway.

  • Well that is certainly neat how easy it is to add an inline image.

He came passing through one day after I finished mowing the lawn about 3 yrs ago. He was navigating the sprinklers and eating bugs. Pretty pathetic. I couldn’t get near him but I went and got some meow mix. I’d never feed my cats this unless emergency as it seems to be like cotton candy or something to them so I exploited that and in a few days I got to pet him.

Was like petting a skeleton. I let him in but could tell that wasn’t gonna fly with my other 2. So I installed a cat door so he could access the garage. I’m not sure he’s very bright as it was exhausting getting him to figure out he could simply walk through it. He’s been around ever since aside from those mysterious 6 weeks.

He’s not handsome anymore but he’s cool. I’ll give him some scritches as you requested, just not on the belly! Like another rescue he forgets that he is safe now and instincts take over when touched the wrong way. Thanks for listening to my dumb cat story!

  • To be fair It has its uses i suppose. I’ve had one running pihole since the original pi came out. Used PI2s in the past for OSMC and, even better, ambilight.

I think now a cheap android TV box you can flash is probably better for a simple less than 5watt device.

Besides the HA test I’ve been trying to use one to be an openvpn TAP interface but it’s been a fight and i think you just convinced me to do it in another docker instance on the server and save myself some headaches.

  • Thanks, you made me feel better! And it’s nice to know some cats enjoy belly rubs and won’t tear you apart for it.

I worked with big cats for a bit so maybe I’m just cautious but I’ve spilled blood too many times for touching the belly. Only rescue I took in that was a skeleton yet somehow pregnant likes it. I gave her kittens good homes after they were old enough to be fixed and in one case a 18hrr drive.

As much as the last rescue would like to come in he stays outside but has the garage. It’s on purpose because I’m a sucker and can’t save them all and he defends the territory. He vanished for 6 weeks and showed back up with a clipped ear and no “package”. City thing I guess but 6 weeks? I wish i could hear that story. Sorry for the unrequested story but he deserves to be logged in internet history. His name is Vibe.

  • I’ll get a lot of hate for this but when you say pi you mean pi4. I kept seeing this HA on lemmy and tried it on a pi2. I don’t know if it worked or not, it’s a very bloated piece of software. After an hour of waiting I installed docker and the HA instance on my main server (which is ancient) in under a minute.

It’s cool and all but my feit dimmers require some pcb work and flashing to be compatible so verify what devices you have before you hop in.

I used to have an automated building running on a bare 386 and a floppy drive. Hate on me all you want but sending simple commands like turn device on shouldn’t require a giant software package but otherwise HA is neat, just a lot of overhead i can’t exactly justify.

    Worth trying out though.

I think reflow stole a lot of their code.

  • That would be amazing… imagine face planting from a stupid stunt and being like no biggie they’ll grow back. Works for kids and we already know from admittedly gross tumors the human body can grow hair and teeth. Just have to get them in the right place.

Also agree with the other comment to your post… crispr will likely be for the rich. Hell, it probably already is. A cynical view but i don’t sit at that table so who knows.

  • Nuclear is great. A while back I came across a company that had developed a simple geothermal reactor (no pumps, cooling towers etc) that seemed neat but was probably just a VC bid.

They supposedly had a goal of building some tests in Idaho or something. They should have deployed it in PR after that hurricane. Would have made a great test site.

If course it’s old tech… I don’t remember which one but a Japanese company developed something similar… it was smaller than a typical Telco or isp pop is (or roughly 3x the size of your typical residential AC condenser) and could provide power for an entire community.

Funny how that stuff never materalizes.

Small scale modular reactors make perfect sense… sorry I don’t have any sources but you can search the above term and find all the pipe dreams i saw 10 years ago. Oil, gas, etc is just still too profitable.
