We went to some African restaurant in Seoul to try it out. Suddenly a guy with a camera introduced himself that he is recording for some TV show about restaurants with foreign food in Seoul.
He asked if he could record me, but to praise the food and say how amazing it is. They like to show foreigners praising food on TV here.
Anyway my stake was burned so I had to lie about why this is a good thing and why it is so amazing.
You had a opportunity to go full Gordon Ramsay!
If you hadn’t lied they would have burned you at the steak
Why did you feel like you had to lie?
Because the steak was burned and didn’t taste good. But the guy specifically told me to say that i tastes amazing and to even exaggerate. This is also a thing on TV here in Korea that they have those foreigners tasting food and they without exception always have to say how amazing it is, you never see them saying they don’t like it. Even if you can see it on their reaction, they would always say mhmm so good! :D

I read that the first time, too. But the same question remains.
I guess I didn’t want to be rude to him, especially as a foreigner.
Maybe it’s a fun tv show, letting foreigners eat bad food and pretend it’s good.
Anyways, stay true to yourself <3
Reminds me of this bit from Married with Children where Kelly has to react to the flavors of the diet shake she’s doing a commercial for.
What kind of viewers wouldn’t notice they’re looking at a burnt steak?
Not the point of your story, but nationalism is fucking stupid. There’s good shit in/about your country, there’s bad shit in/about mine and vis versa. Where you happened to be born shouldn’t matter; when in doubt, be honest…
