So pathetic and petty. What did this person ever do to them? The mental gymnastics needed to justify using the freaking House of the United States to punish a single person who they likely have never met, for an immutable personal trait? It gives me a headache to even try to understand it.

One of the big downsides to pretending 100% of Holocaust victims were Jewish is that the 50% who weren’t were sent to the camps for other reasons.

Like being Trans, or any other kids and of LGBT. The problem was even “the good guys” were anti-lgbt back then, just look at how they treated their war heroes:

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing#Homosexuality_and_indecency_conviction

And then America, who had taken in all types of Nazis scientists, denied Turing entry just to fucking take a vacation.

I think this is why so many people are shocked by trump winning, people actually believed Americans were inherently good, and they believed it.

Nobody is pretending. They aren’t taught about the other 6 million people at all.

Fwiw Jews made a pretty big deal about making sure everyone remembered, and look where we’re at when Atlas shrugs for the length of an upward mobility. I think it was making a difference and necessary in the face of a decades-long dismantling of the public education system.

Also, validation, yup… I know boomers that were “progressive anti racists” and beat up queer people

What did this person ever do to them?

      Exist.

The Republican party has used hate and fear to make a significant portion of our society hate the IDEA of other people existing. None of these people know or interact with trans people, or they wouldn’t hate them. I know trans people. Spoiler Alert: they’re just people. That’s it. But the Republican party is brainwashing Americans to believe they aren’t.

Hate won in America a few weeks ago.

I think it should be said. I went to a reading of the names this year, as I have in some form every year since 2015; and I’ve never seen so many children’s names read. For context, the names are of the people murdered in transphobic hate crimes in the past year. It used to be a notable tragedy when a 15 year old was driven to suicide and this year we had multiple 14 year olds dead by others’ hands.

Speaker Johnson doesn’t care though. I’m sure he’d say his behavior today was in those children’s best interests, but no the transphobia he is promoting is killing children both by emboldening bigots and by driving them to hopelessness.

I hope someday he has to stand before his victims and a deity and explain himself. I hope he begins acting in a way so as to make it a less unpleasant experience when he gets to that point.

      He won’t.

The bad guys are winning. Simple as that.

Any repercussions will have to be earthly. Hope we can make that happen. But at this point I’m gonna go with “probably not”, since we just elected a felon and rapist who is now guaranteed to get away with his crimes.

Nex Benedict was murdered, and the state covered it up. There was an immediate attempt by bad actors on the far right (Alex Jones/4chan/etc) to spin a suicide narrative. State coroner is a governor appointed position in Oklahoma. Owasso just had a federal investigation into not just the queer bashing, but serious issues with neglecting children with disabilities and covering up sexual abuse by teachers.

The kid was murdered, it was covered up, and no one seems to care.

Not their fault. Don’t hate the non-wealthy ones, pity them.

They’re deluded to be that way by the owner’s for profit media propaganda and captured public education teaching us all that reveling in greed “rational self-interest” and being a rugged individual instead of a member of a society is the only way to live. You have to think critically (something most aren’t taught until college by design) and actively buck that programming to actually see the reality for what it is.

There used to be something called the social contract, but that was set on fire so long ago with the false delusion lie impressed onto us by the owners of one day becoming the millionaires inflicting ourselves on society, many don’t even know the term.

Not their fault. Don’t hate the non-wealthy ones, pity them.

Why? Why should I pity adults who make awful decisions that degrade the quality of all our lives? I didn’t receive some special education. I wasn’t privileged. But I didn’t end up stupid enough to do what they’ve done. They vote the way they do because they’re intellectually lazy and choose to prize emotion over facts. That’s not some rich person’s fault. That’s not the media’s fault. That’s THEIR fault. It’s wrong to try to excuse that for them.

We aren’t talking about children here. We’re talking about grown ass adults.

I understand people are desperate, but desperation doesn’t just make you a drone to be impressed upon by the wealthy and manipulative. Being lazy, or weak, or hateful does. You don’t need some higher education to understand right from wrong.

Some North Koreans see Kim Jong Un as a literal deity, because that is what they are indoctrinated to “know.”

Some people have smart parents that help them, some people are naturally gifted, some people see the horror capitalism inflicts from an early age at a personal level that overrides the programming, but our nation is captured by the capital market, as its education system.

They probably aren’t fixable, but our millions upon millions of willfully ignorant capitalism worshippers voting and advocating directly against their own interests were made, not born that way. They are the default, the ideal laborer, from the owner’s perspective, the kind that accepted their lies as self-evident, including hatred for anyone but devout capitalist market worshippers.

Your rank and file Republican voter was just a kid of average intelligence or below, fashioned into a soldier for big capital to maintain the exploitation they themselves are also subject to in perpetuity.

But if that isn’t enough, the most important reason to pity the poor ignoramuses is this:

The owners WANT those intelligent and equipped enough with critical thinking and reasoning to hate and fight the caste of ignoramuses they’ve made. That is a feature not a bug, because so long as the ones that can see this crony capitalist system for what it is hate the ignorant masses that defend it against their own interests, and vice versa, we’ll never have the ability to rise up against them. It’s yet another layer of control.

By hating the victims of capitalist indoctrination, rather than understanding they are victims too and a painful symptom of the disease that lives in capital markets, you’re doing exactly what the owners want. Those with hundreds of millions in exploited capital are our actual enemy, debating/fighting the legions of their lobotomized victims/useful idiots is a sideshow.

Those people are a blight, don’t get me wrong, but if there is a solution at all, it’s bypassing them and fighting the tiny class of people that created them, easily identifiable by the way, as they love to be on Forbes lists that show off their ego scores.

Almost always, if you want to know who the real problem/perpetrators are, you need only identify who’s holding the big bag of loot thanks to the situation. Ho dunk Cletus in the trailer park may have voted for Trump twice, but he is not a beneficiary, just a cultist who isn’t bright enough to understand he’s a cultist.

I mean I wholeheartedly agree with everything you’re saying except the fault not ultimately being on the average voter.

We don’t live in the dark ages. All information is freely available to all voters. That information is power. Power that we’re choosing not to wield or wielding irresponsibly.

Now, you can argue that in places like North Korea, that isn’t true. They’re under lock and key. Although I do believe they have some concept of an outside world and what’s available in that outside world. And regardless of whether you’re under a regime that’s limiting information, you can still determine if your life sucks. Even without any outside stimulus to act as a basis of comparison.

This isn’t a regime…yet. We have access to the data. We have the power to vote. It’s our fault for not using the tools provided to us responsibly.

If it makes you feel better, everything was already ruined.

The best case scenario was continued crony capitalist dystopic hellscape with the poor’s lives being burned up in subservient subsistence to our modern pharoah oligarch class… but you know with identity affirming ribbons and pins and stuff.

Now we get all the oligarch stuff with… concentration camps and death squads and stuff.

Either way, the owners win, they don’t care. Their mistresses will always have abortion on tap, their nepo children will always have their identities affirmed, elections are simply for the poors to either inflict supplimental cruelty on other poors or not to give us the illusion of choice and keep us hating one another instead of looking up at our owners.

This country was ruined irreparably in the 1980s, a few Tuesdays ago was just a reminder of that reality.

It’s ruined for their children and theirs, but you don’t become a 9 figure millionaire or billionaire by loving anyone else like your children, only yourself.

The 28 thousand 100-million-plus inaires on earth we all serve one way or another have no national allegiance, and will simply vacation from whatever temperate climate is left that accepts currency to the next until complete ecological collapse from their own fine work in 20-40 years.

Then yeah, they’ll retreat to their luxury bunker complexes and sip expensive whiskey under the world they destroyed, probably nonsensically blaming the poors they mercilessly exploited for ruining the planet as they’ll never self-reflect on their own avarice and sociopathy.

As I said, modern pharoahs, so of course they have decadent tombs at the ready.

All the nice things in the world won’t save them from themselves. When the collapse truly begins, and the walls start closing in, they’ll be feeling it. Narcissistic collapse writ large. There isn’t an amount of money large enough to save them from the simple fact that they are as human as the rest of us. And those bunkers will be overthrown, or turned into tombs.

I want them to be the last survivors of a dead world. It’s what they deserve. Kings of nothing. Behold my works ye mighty and despair!

I was in Europe and they had full unisex bathrooms. There were only stalls and the dividers were floor to near 8 feet. And no gaps you could see through on the doors. It was no big deal, everyone just did their thing and left.

As a german I have never seen this but whichever country is doing that has things figured out.

To be clear we do still have proper stalls, it’s just that bathrooms are always gendered unless it’s a really small place that only has one toilet in the first place.

That’s how the states are, but also the stalls tend to have a 1/4 to 1/2 inch (.6-1.25cm) gap at the sides and on the door. So you don’t have much privacy, plus there is often no indicator of weather it’s occupied or not. So you end up awkwardly kinda seeing if someone is in there by checking the gap but also trying not to see what you don’t want to see

Also the dismantling of government agencies begins!

That’s going to be the thing that really fucks us going forward. If our democracy survives at all, we’ll spend a significant amount of time and energy rebuilding what was dismantled. That means less time and energy on general progression.

When Trump won the first time I knew it really meant we were going to see less progress in our lifetimes. Now we’re going to see even less.

And it’s our own fault. Because we’re generally very stupid.

Almost all non-gender bathrooms I have ever seen are just single occupent restrooms. Would that be covered under the ban, or would their be more nuance than that?
