The latest proposal mandates user consent for monitoring messages on all communication apps, including those with end-to-end encryption.
Guess I’ll be contacting my MEPs, and looking into which MEPs support and oppose this plan.
Though I am glad to see my country at least has stated it finds the proposal unacceptable. This law is so utterly stupid in it’s conception, I’m at loss for words.
As if any underground chat in the Darknet built and run for nefarious purposes would give a flying s–t about this.
Additionally, chat monitoring would not apply to accounts used for national security, investigations, or military purposes.
Why do they want to protect the pedophiles working for nations and militaries?
Rules for thee but not for me
What does that mean for apps like SimpleX?
Do they have to comply? :/ And if they decide like signal to retire from EU, how will that work?
Getting all the states to agree to this seems unlikely and I believe it needs to be unanimous, right?
Bet they will still have tik tok
😂
Does this apply to Lemmy ?
Edit : … there would be no need since Lemmy is open and anybody can read what we post.
