Ok, I admit, I’ve been lazy and kept using liftoff until the last moment, but that is coming soon with lemmy.world moving to 0.19.x soon.

I totally like how liftoff feels, very lifghtweigth and dark, so looking for a replacement that can manage multiple accounts, has a dark mode, runs in landscape and isn’t to big. Any tips other then boost? I have boost and hate it’s interface.

Not sure what landscape features you’re looking for, but I’ve been pretty happy with Voyager. I switched from liftoff/jerboa after lemmy.ml took the 0.19 update and they broke. It’s been good enough that I think even if the others hadn’t broken, I’d still choose Voyager over them.

I use my 8" Samsung tab S2 for reading and responding. When in portrait the keyboard is to small, in landscape the keyboard I use (Hacker’s keyboard) is perfect.

Also, when you’ve seen more then half of a century, eyes and hands suffer from wear a tad.

Thunder is the closest IMO. I actually use Liftoff as a backup to Thunder as my main app, because they kinda feel similar.

I’ve installed thunder next to summit. Both look the same, both feel almostbthe same, but a tad different.

I went from Liftoff to a few others, but I’m really feeling at home in Summit.

It’s pretty good as is and the dev is very responsive and updates fairly often with improvements and keeps an ongoing roadmap of future updates.

Connect was good and better looking then Liftoff or Summit, but I post every day and make some really long posts, and Summit just has awesome features and a pretty good workflow for that.

Boost has finally fixed its post UI to be useful. I used this for Reddit, so I originally started on Liftoff for Lemmy since I expected it to be a Boost copycat.

Sync was ok but not for me.

Landscape works in Summit, and I run in Dark Mode. Says it supports multiple accounts, but I haven’t tried, I spend all my time on one instance anymore.

Had a ton of settings and everything is pretty customizable. I’m very happy here after 5 months on Liftoff.

Dev hasn’t posted in 4 months, I think he had twins, so he’s off enjoying that.

Without being around to keep the app working as Lemmy updates, it’s gonna stop working one day.

Lemmy 0.19 sounds like a big update and has a lot of new features that a non updated app won’t be able to handle, hence today’s announcement by the Lemmy.World crew why they’ve been waiting so long to roll it out since they’re the biggest instance and don’t wanna catch users by surprise having apps not work or major problems pop up.

That’s my understanding of the situation anyway. Some details me be not exactly right, but close enough.

Good for him and his twins, but it’s a shame. I’ve tried lots of different lemmy apps and haven’t liked any of them except liftoff so far…

It took me a lot of testing apps, but I find Connect or Boost best for lurking, as I find them the prettiest UI.

Summit I love for posting due to having the best feature set, and the UI is there with the best of them as far as customizations, but I just can’t get it to look quite as polished as Connect or Boost.

Sync I kept around for a while to, but it didn’t have the feel I was used to with Liftoff.

Ok, thanks to tips I’ve installed both summit and thunder. I like both, but they feel both a tad different.

    • I like the message list of thunder slightly better then the one in summit
    • I like the reply method of summit a tad better then the one in thunder

Both will stay and be tested. Thanks for the tips and I’ll continue testing and see what will be my main reader/posting app.

I don’t know Liftoff, so can’t’ compare but I am using Mlem. I don’t know if it is a good app or not but It has all the functionalities you asked for. Changing from account is quite easy: one slice and tap and it is done.

Single column in landscape mode for one, follow dark mode setting of the device (black is black, not dark grey).

I’m now kinda hooked on thunder, it fits me better.

I find it odd that you like Liftoff but not Boost as I found them to be rather similar.

I’m also still on liftoff, and I really like it. I guess I’ll have to try each of the ones listed here, but definitely gonna also keep liftoff in case the dev manages to find the time to catch back up at some point.

I used liftoff and moved to thunder when my instance moved to 0.19.

I changed some settings to my liking and now I’m used to it. It isn’t a drop in replacement but is okay. It works in landscape mode and has a dark mode and almoled dark mode.
