If Waylon were still with us he’d kick the ass of nearly everyone in Nashville
“You’re saying country musicians didn’t always support wars of imperialism? Huh?”
“Come on Willy let’s ride”

I’d also humbly submit Sierra Ferrell: not exactly outlaw country, but definitely in the vein of old school country, and she has a voice that is absolutely hypnotizing.
One of her most popular songs that is about love with a healthy dose of morbidity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2W8kCk1qnU
An absolutely legendary display of what she’s capable of with her voice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57Aha_GwFt4
Love Sturgill, Jason Isbell is in the same league imo
Rural noun, simple adjective
Both of these types existed in the past and still exist today.
Conway Twitty?
Pat Finnerty on YouTube does a great series called What Makes This Song Stink. It’s definitely not for everyone, as he doesn’t give a shit about YouTube algorithms and keeping videos to an ideal length. But has a recent hour long video on Jason Aldean’s Try That in a Small Town. The video (Pat Finnerty’s not Jason Aldean’s) is phenomenal.
Beato
Pat Finnerty is a treasure. His podcast is also pretty funny if you haven’t checked it out. But every day a new video from him drops is a good day.
Another video you (and @[email protected], @[email protected], @[email protected]) might enjoy is Chill Goblin’s take on “Oliver Anthony, Welfare, and Blair Mountain”. Oliver Anthony is the artist who did “Rich Men North of Richmond” and it’s a really great breakdown with historical contexts from the mining union wars to the Reagan Era of “Welfare Queens”.
Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll check it out later today.
Todd in the Shadows also did a great breakdown of this song
I still think the devil won that fiddle contest.
As long as jonny accepted that battle the devil won. Greed and all that
Tennesse ernie ford anyone?
Marty robbins?
Get me the classic good shit
🎶 With a big iron on his hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip 🎶
I despise modern country music and generally consider outlaw country and anything not Nashville Establishment to be the real shit.
I like Billy Strings, he’s the exception, phenomenal guitar work with some true outlaw country lyrics.
I recently discovered the band Ween and the song Japanese Cowboy is so pleasing to hear.
12 golden country greats is such a good album.
I’m convinced that if someone wrote a classic country banger, like a certified banger. Country “fans” would hate it and everyone else would love it.
I mean they seemed to like Toby Keith, he’s even done a song with Willie Nelson about bounty hunting.
