All that other stuff comes already, but I do not see it create the metaverse.

The metaverse is awesome, invented in the book Snowcrash from 1992. Its by Neal Stephenson, not Gibson, my mistake.

Ok, fair point about it being in Snow Crash. I can forgive it a little bit now. I still don’t love the name, and I think we should come up with something better for the eventual fediverse version of the same idea.
Yeah the name was cheesy even back then IMO but the concept was fantastic.
VRchat, the OpenXR format, and custom-built/3d printed VR headsets come to mind.
