I too have been to Borneo and saw the orang-utans. Mosquito nets are not guaranteed, but yeah, with one it looks like a pretty sweet spot. Certainly better than a lot of the places I stayed at in South-East Asia .
Cool place. I didn’t think you had been, I was more referring to the OP. I didn’t do a river cruise, though. I worked in Brunei for about 5 months, and went to Sabah to see the apes and climb Mt. Kinabalu before leaving. This was in 1994 and sadly I no longer have the photos.
I always say the unofficial motto of SEA is 'What’s that smell?"
If there are no insects and the weather is warm enough, then this is amazing.
Oh, there will be insects.
As long as there’s a mosquito net I’d still be thrilled. Going to sleep hearing the crickets and the water sounds like bliss.
I have actually done that, just not on a boat and I had a sleeping bag and pad instead of a bed. Even a crappy real bed sounds nice.

Oh, sorry for being unclear, I meant the sleeping outside part! Never been to Borneo myself, it sounds fantastic though.
