  • I know Lemmy is gonna say “stop being addicted to your phone” but like I’m asking this question with more of a like “fuck corporate” attitude

I gained a reputation in my work as someone always glued to the phone, even when walking home. Not that I care much about what others think, but in my defense, I am trading stocks. I toned down using my phone because I got called out by my supervisor as it had affected my work performance. In my role, we have lots of downtime in between the tasks and using phone is allowed so long as we do the job properly. Anyhow, not that I mind much what they think of me because my plan for early retirement is more important than my company needs who could eventually throw you under the bus 😝 I know companies don’t always appreciate long time employees so why should I give 110%? Some people give too much to companies but not me.

  • I searched for my topics of interest and hobbies but barely got any hit.

Oh yeah, it is worth noting that Nebula doesn’t have as many options as in YouTube, I’m afraid. That is the limitation of platform. New content creators do come in to Nebula but not as often as it would be on YouTube.

Personally, I love nebula because it does have the topics I am interested in, which is mainly history, news, video games and politics. There are also long form video essays on variety of topics. I would say that Nebula is more like nerdy because of prevalence of those topics. I haven’t come across Nebula videos that are more niche like, let’s say, woodworking or metalworking etc. I do photography but I think there is only one Nebula content creator that does photography.

  • I think the answer is pretty simple: immigration and the cultures and behaviour that come with impoverished people.

Bingo. I wish more people would realise this instead of calling people stupid, hillbilly, racist, ignorant etc. The problem is not immigration itself, but pitting the poor against fellow poor who happen to be of foreign origin. With austerity going on since the financial crisis, there has been little to no public investment. Housing in particular has been put under private equity and NIMBYs kicking down the property ladder making it harder for nearly everyone to put roof over their heads. The nature of employment has changed, turning from traditional manual labour to either knowledge-based or automation, which not everyone has the knack for or that less people are needed.

So, less housing and less jobs are available. This puts family in poverty. As we speak, record number of children are in poverty and emergency accommodations. Guess what effect will this experience have on these children growing up in shaping their world view…
