My sister read the new Hunger Games book and was dying to talk about it, so I just started it after finishing book 3 of The Expanse
They do a lot of optimization for modern hardware like supporting wide screen resolutions. They fixed major show stopper bugs along with a ton of tiny fixes and added a lot of mod-like options in the settings.
For example it’s a turn based game so your guys do everything based on “time units”. In the base game it can be a big risk to peek around a corner, see an enemy and not have time to fire or even retreat back to safety. OpenXcom can show you how many time units you’ll have left and in colors if you have enough time to shoot when you get there. Cool stuff!
The AI seems pretty true to vanilla but they put in a rule that you have at least one turn to get out of your drop ship without being fragged or rocketed by aliens. There are third party mods that make the aliens work as a team to sneak up or flank you. Those scare me so I haven’t tried it yet lol
I played some X-COM via OpenXcom. Having fun trying to keep from getting massacred assaulting an alien base!

Multiplayer relies on other people so they are more likely to have people buy it early on to play with their friends and a high player count.
The downside is you’re paying full price for a game that still has issues to sort out. And eventually the game dies off when everyone else moves on to the next thing
Single player games are cool because in many ways the value goes up over time. You pay a lot less to get a full more polished game, some with an awesome mod community making even more stuff.
But to get back on track with this post yeah you can totally balance it. Play the best multiplayer games while new single player games release, get fixed and get less expensive
uhhh yeah, and?
The last panel is a little on the nose for their usual style. I think “Few will to make it so” is what I would have gone with

Metal Gear Solid 2 plays out like this. Spoilers below but it came out in 2001 so whatever
The bad guy is a former President that knew his job was just as a figurehead, nothing more. He found out the hard way that even his orders came from a cutout.
He recruited “terrorists” to take the sitting President “hostage” so they could “force him” to detonate an EMP over the east coast. The plan is to dismantle the shadow government (actually AI) running the government/censoring public opinion and hopefully free the country
You play as the wide eyed idealistic special forces infiltrator, trained heavily through VR and sent to “rescue” the sitting President from the “terrorist leader” and learn that everything you know is wrong and you were given orders by the AI all along
After a few failed tries I started doing a serious play to win run of XCom UFO Defense with OpenXCom. The game can seem daunting but it’s honestly pretty fun!
Then I looked into other open source games and got distracted big time by starting Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 for my first time EVER with OpenRCT2! I now fully understand the hype and it’s crazy that I haven’t played it sooner
