  • That’s just wishful thinking that doesn’t address the problem at all. Even though you might want the 90-9-1 ratio to change, it isn’t. It’s an established pattern for a reason. Even if the person you responded to was gonna post a lot, they might get a few upvotes, maybe a comment or two on their posts. Simply because there aren’t enough people here to engage with niche topics. And then it feels like your effort is futile (which honestly it is if your goal is an active community), they get discouraged and stop posting and we’re back to square one with no meaningful changes. Sometimes it is about numbers and this is one such case.

  • Probably something like… €400.000 to €450.000. Then I could buy an apartment or small house when I graduate and pay off my student loans in full. It depends on the city I can find work in and want to live though. There are 3 I’m seriously considering and it varies about a €100.000 for a house between the cheapest and most expensive of the three.

  • I have two small friend groups of four and in both is someone who often works weekend, so that’s always fun trying to plan something, let alone if I want to have both groups somewhere. It was honestly a miracle I could get all 6 of them in one place at the same time somewhat close to my birthday.

  • I have a disability and I’m a student so I have zero physical or mental energy to have a job next to my almost full time study. I used to just be broke all the time. I found out there’s a city government fund for people exactly like me, and it honestly so fucking crazy what that extra 300 euros a month does. It’s not just that I can afford necessities and something fun once in a while but it gives so much peace of mind. One of my cats was sick a few months ago and I could just take her to the vet and have her blood work done without having to stress about it.

That never happens to me because I’m too autistic to be aware of my own facial expressions. I didn’t even realize until a friend I made at 20 or 21 told me I could go into theater because I was so expressive with my face. That gave me a bit of a mini existential crisis. My face has been loudly communicating things to everyone all this time without my knowledge or consent? Wtf

Hahaha I did the same with a previous cat. She was so fucking dumb, like borderline actually something wrong with her. I would always say thing like ‘who is so dumb? Who is the dumbest little cat on the entire planet? You are! You’re a little moron! Yes you are!’ in a baby voice to her lol.

  • but as with any discipline, a big part of how much fun it is to learn has to do with how it’s taught.

I teach (technically still in college, but true enough) basically the opposite of you, history, and this is very true. You can make history lessons fun and engaging and challenging, but it’s also very easy to make them boring. Unfortunately, as you are also aware of, it’s difficult to make these interesting lessons with the constraints of time (of which administrative bullshit takes up a lot), class sizes and government-mandated curriculums and tests.

Last year I had my internship at a pretty shitty school with abysmal guidance and support which meant I was teaching all on my own even though I shouldn’t have been allowed to, and basically no curriculum. That sucked, but it also meant I had basically total freedom in what and how I taught, and the classes were 12 students maximum. I pretty much only did engaging and fun lessons for 4 months straight.

  • I used to hang out with hippies and artists and the age range is quite large there. There was this dude in his 70s who would casually talk about the time he helped get rid of a body after a murder acquaintances of his did in the 60s or 70s or something. He was actually put on trial and got convicted in the 80s when one the people who did the actual murder couldn’t live with the guilt and confessed but managed to get it overturned when he appealed and got acquitted, in part because they never found the body because like 5 years after they disposed of it they put a new highway right over it. Old people are fucking wild lol

  • Same here. I have neither the religion of the germanic peoples who ‘invented’ Christmas nor the religion of the ones who incorporated it later (or any), but I can appreciate lights, warmth and people who are important to you getting together at a time of the year when it’s cold and grey and dark for 16 hours a day. That’s why and how the winter solstice was originally celebrated and I get that.
