Definitely agree with this, I find Siu Nim Tau a good example of it for me.
Lots of physical training and also escapism. I guess training is also a form of escapism in a way too.

Reminds me of one time I had a 7am meeting I was supposed to run and woke up nice and rested at 8 30. It was a special feeling when it slowly dawned on me that it was light outside and I checked the time.

Isn’t the fact that it’s uncommon what makes it extreme though? I could be wrong about that but I’m not sure how else you’d define what is extreme vs not.

That’s a good point. I guess things have gotten so bad I don’t consider those views to be held only by extremists anymore but maybe (and hopefully) I’m wrong about that.
Sounds similar to me in some ways, I think a small group of friends like that is better though. A few of us a still quite close and catch up regularly so I call that a win vs being generally popular.
