Pretty much only played Fire Emblem: Three Houses this week.

I am at Chapter 16, and went with the Black Eagle’s Church route. I have figured out some gameplay and character stuff, and can think of some things I would like to do differently, but as I am playing on Normal, I don’t think the min-maxing matter too much, and most classes work fine on most characters. So have stopped worrying and just having fun with it.

The story is good, and it was interesting to see end of Part 1 and start of Part 2. Some of the plot twists were pretty obvious, but would love to play the other routes and see thing from their point of view. Also, thinking about buying the DLC after finishing the game once.

Since I am kinda smitten with Fire Emblem these days, wanted more of that, something to play in bed at night, when Switch 2 is back in the dock. Tried the mobile FE games but couldn’t get into them, so thought about Fire Emblem Warriors, but don’t want to do it while still playing Three Houses, not to mention don’t want to play another Warriors games when I never finished Hyrule Warriors.

So, resumed my playthrough of Hyrle Warriors: Age of Calamity, I was at last mission of Chapter 4, tried a random timed mission where I had to beat a Lynel and a Hinox, and failed the mission, apparently the game isn’t as easy as I remember.

Cleared Chapter 4 now. It’s fun to see so much new stuff showing up on map after doing the main mission.

No Judgment or Dimension Drive this week. And since FE: Three Houses is scratching my dungeon crawling itch, have officially dropped Moonlighter once again.

What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?

    Played more Harvestella this week.

I went with the suggestion I got and ignored most of the side stuff until after the 3rd chapter, which meant a lot of dungeon crawling and not much farming. I got it done and would recommend the same to everyone else.

The story basically introduces each city and most of the companion characters, which then have their own story you can choose to follow - kinda like Persona does, without the filler events. I haven’t done much of these yet, so I still can’t say much about their overall writing. However, I can already praise the normal side quests for fleshing out minor characters. So far, a lot of characters had multiple side quests progressing their story despite them being average NPCs instead of companions with an actual friendship level. The world feels way more lived in that way.

Anyway, after all that dungeon crawling, I yearned for some farming and have been going all in on that aspect of the game. After the 3rd chapter, you can unlock many useful abilities making it easier to manage your ever growing farm. I’ll go back to the main story once I grow tired of that or once I’m filthy rich.

Counterstrike 2, because it actually seems that they got rid of major cheaters. Every game has like 1, but he is easily kicked off. And then the game is actually fun again.

I think with the changes they made to loot, crashing the game economy, it made a lot of bots stop also. No profit in it anymore.

That’s nice to see. I don’t play much PvP games, but I know how much of an annoyance cheaters can be, so good to see Valve taking care of them.

Finished Nier Automata. Really loved it. I think it’s one of those games that still isn’t compatible with Switch 2. I don’t have a Switch 2 (yet, maybe for xmas), but surely it will get fixed eventually?

According to reports I’ve seen it runs but crashes very often.

Really wish they’d patch this, I was researching the compatibility with games in my collection and this is the biggest one that’s listed as “not working”.

I was playing more animal crossing new horizons on my Switch 2 and I’m really glad they are going to release an enhanced resolution update for cheap soon in January. Other than that, I’ve been trying the demo for street fighter 6 and some other game I’ve never heard of. I think it’s a jrpg? I’m not too sure but it looked fun

I have been looking for some cozy games, so may give Animal Crossing another try, though I am mostly done with it, so not sure if I’ll actually stick with it or not.

Which other game are you playing?

Oh I forgot to mention: this is my first time playing Kirby returns to dreamland for the Wii ( emulator. ) it’s very fun but the controls are so odd since it’s a Wii game. I’m so used to using the 4 buttons on the regular Nintendo controllers

Part of me wonders how the remake is on the switch? But they don’t have the updated graphics for the switch 2 so I’m not interested

I got the Super Mario Galaxy collection for Switch and I recently finished the main story for the first one. I got over 80 stars, so I might go back to get the rest to complete it. I played some Super Mario Galaxy 2 after that, but then went back to Cyberpunk 2077.

I got the physical version of TMNT: Splintered Fate and I haven’t tried it yet, since I was waiting for my cousin to get it too so we can play online. We’ll probably organize an online session soon.

Finally, I want to try Luigi’s Mansion on Nintendo Online. I think I played it a little bit back in the day, and I enjoyed Luigi’s Mansion 3. Maybe I should go back to finishing that one instead for spooky season 😅

Super Mario Galaxy is pretty high on my list, but didn’t want to jump to another 3D platformer so soon after Bananza. Will get it soon though.

Same with Luigi Mansion, though I did finish 3. Didn’t collect 100% stuff though, but I very rarely do that.

    Playing Super Robot Taisen Y!

Almost done with Chapter 5, most meaningful upgrade to the team this week was getting Mazin Emperor G. According to the wiki I have to make the choice of my ending path by the end of this chapter, curious what are the options will be.

    Playing Nine Sols!

Current side-game. Had this in my wishlist for a while and was hesitant to pick it up due to Silksong PTSD, but after seeing it go on sale and hearing it has accessibility options to lower difficulty if necessary I decided to give it a shot.

And I’m having a lot of fun. I’m trying to keep going on the “Standard” difficulty and the game is kicking my ass, but so far it doesn’t feel as punishing as Silksong. Game is very combat-focused, mob enemies can hit really hard so you need to move carefully, but the game doesn’t usually throw too many enemies at once and you’re also constantly finding shortcuts so even if you die you can get back to where you were quickly.

The hardest part has been to let go of the muscle memory from other metroidvanis to try dodging everything and go hard on parry instead. Realizing I could parry or cancel all but one of the attacks of the first major boss was an “Eureka!” moment that let me progress much faster in that battle.

Switch 1 performance is… passable. Noticeable frame drops but nothing that hurts gameplay. One last comment that I’d like to make is that this game has a lot more cutscenes/story sections than I expected, and it can get really dark, the end of story prologue was a very surprising twist.

Nine Sols is on my wishlist too, how is it for someone who was never able to finish Hollow Knight either?

As the other poster mentioned, the accessibility options will probably be able to help. But as someone that has 100% both Hollow Knight and Silksong, I couldn’t get very far in Nine Sols. The parry is key and I found the timing for it incredibly brutal.

My initial impression is that its Standard mode in the same level in difficulty as HK, so you’d probably want to use Story Mode and tweak the damage numbers.

I haven’t tested it but the wiki says you can go as far as “take 1% damage and deal 1000%”, so you can definitely find a sweet spot for your tastes: https://ninesols.wiki.gg/wiki/Game_Modes
