That’s what my partner used to say to me before he got the diagnosis. It sounded as if he never had any thoughts in his head. It put a strain on our relationship too, because he used to answer this those times I noticed he wasn’t listening while I was talking and asked what he was thinking about. Sometimes it seemed like he didn’t care at all.

Turns out he has too many thoughts in his head, and “nothing” was indeed the easiest answer. I guess it doesn’t really matter what the truth is to a random person, but it does matter to your friends and family.

I always tell people the very last thought I had before they ask the question, even if it’s completely random. However, I try to walk the thought process back to get to a point where it’s clear I am listening to them. It’s a bit like a Pinky and the Brain bit, except we’re all smart, just not on the same wavelength.

I was thinking about something, but now I’m thinking about “what was I thinking about” and that pushed out what I was thinking about and now I’m taking too long and I’m thinking about how awkward it’s getting. OMG what was I thinking about?!

Oh yeah it was about that embarrassing thing I did yesterday…

I generally invent something based on a small part of my mental imbroglio. Like that I don’t look like I hide something, and I don’t feel like a liar.

When i met my now best friend 10 years ago, she would always ask me what i’m thinking about. Probably because i’m really good at just starring around. It was never annoying, because she genuinely wanted to know, and it wasn’t just trying to make conversation. I always said: “nothing”.

One day we were in a café and my mind was wondering off and she asked again. For some reason i didn’t say nothing, i said: “see that guy on his BMX with his red shorts?” “On the shorts, it says: Deez Nuts. Deez Nuts is an Australian Hardcore band, and they have a song called “I hustle everyday” In the music video of “I hustle everyday.” The singer has a calendar with the headline “Hustle”. And he crosses off every day. Because they hustle every day.”

She smiled and said: “got it.” And i don’t think she asked again.

    Lost in thought

    “What are you thinking about?”

“… Huh. What am I thinking about?”

Where you forced to violently mastrubate on the train thanks to this post, while dropping your phone, resulting in the whole compartment seeing this post leading them to furiously mastrubating with you?

So you understand, right? This is the reason why we need those tags!! And I’m sorry you too apparently had to go through that yourself. It can’t have been easy for you either and I hope you have a support system to fall back on 😞
