I agree with this in Mexico coke is cheaper than water at an average 10 cents per liter. Though their Chinese EV tariff plan is going to negate any real health benefits since their local market doesn’t produce EVs in enough volume.
What do Chinese EVs have to do with their health?
Gas cars decrease air quality.
Oh I wasn’t aware they are passing tariffs against EVs, I was under the impression that they are having a pro-Chinese agenda.
I don’t know where or how are you buying your stuff but a 3L coca cola is between 40-50 pesos while a 20L purified water costs about 20, more from the big brands but it’s still 17 more liters
Oh i thought it was stupid cheep
About time. Have you had a Jarritos? Shits like 50% sugar.
Is it 50% sugar, or does a serving contain 50% the daily recommended value of sugar?
I sell jarritos at work, all 3 flavours we have say approx 10% sugar (guava, mandarin and lime)
High fructose corn syrup… They are putting that on anything that goes into your mouth.
Not in Mexico… It would be nice if they dropped the corn subsidies in the USA
They are putting that on anything that goes into your mouth.
Arguably one of the least healthy drinks known to man, but unless they call corn-syrup some other fancy word I don’t think Rockstar energy drinks fall under this category?
I use sodium benzoate as a photoinitiator to polymerize PVA… Photoinitiators absorb light and produced free radicals.
I’m happy seeing a country actively trying to help it’s citizens.
First they decreased poverty through a series of measures - https://apnews.com/article/poverty-mexico-president-andres-manuel-lopez-obrador-social-welfare-c7ec7f184ce8163e84fffa1b9f47aed8
Decreasing sugar intake will reduce obesity and diabetes.
I know Mexico still has major issues.
But if Mexico stops making Mexican Coke, where will I get decent Coke in America? 😩
Try Colombian Coke
You can still buy them, you’ll just pay more.
I can get sugar free Coke without importing it. The reason to import regular, sugar added Coke is because they use cane sugar; we use HFCS.
Did they change their comment or something? They are saying you will still be able to buy Mexican coke with cane sugar, it will just be more expensive.
I would guess it won’t be more expensive if your not in Mexico. I bet they lobbied to exempt taxes for product that is exported… Plus your going to have less Mexican demand so more bottlers looking to push to export market.
Oh hey, more propaganda and Lemmy users swallowing it whole.
No wonder populists always use the leftist flag.Anti diabetes propaganda?
Actual populists rarely call themselves populists, you got that right at least. Mainly because a good chunk of people they pander to aren’t bright enough to understand the term “populist”.
But the ones I can think of are all firmly right wing. Trump. Orbán. Farage. And not one of them is, or would call themselves “leftist”.
There was one guy back in the late 1930s who tried that and it didn’t go well for him, and I suspect that makes them nervous.
But then, you probably think that guy actually was a socialist.
They can take my horchata and tamarindo from my cold dead hands.
I don’t know who drinks this shit. Just have some wine.

Last time they got mexico’s calderon to do that it predictably splintered the cartels yielding unending violence.
Someone will fill the market. I say legalize coca leaf to lessen demand.
Isn’t DrPepper a cartel?
No dummy, he is a Doctor.
That would be dangerous.
I agree. They should drop absolutely everything and stop any progression and focus all effort in stopping the cartel until donald trump said the cartel are no more.
It’s been 54 years and the war on drugs has not much to show for it except for the wasted tax payer money and human lives. But surely the cartels are the problem.
My sweet summer child…
The cartels are involved in way more than just drugs.
Jarritos gang, most dangerous gang in all of Mexico!
Kidney disease is pretty horrific.
And diabetes… name a more iconic duo!
I mean diabetes isn’t necessarily a death sentence, but I’d imagine it’s not fun at all. Turns out self-control is really hard. It’s kind of why I gave up on trying to control anyone else. Does that affect ours and others’ lives both negatively and positively? Resounding yes. I’m just glad I don’t have diabetes, but I have continued to adjust my diet, with a few major f’up days. Other habits are still challenging me.
I’ve got the beetus. Genetic, though type 2. I’m in my 40s and I’ve known about it since around 18. I only require oral meds. I’ve also adjusted my diet enough that diabetes really isn’t my biggest concern, at this point. Others may have a more challenging time with their diabetes though. With that said, I still eat too much crap I shouldn’t! I try 🤷♂️
I’m glad it’s not your biggest challenge. I’ve lost neighbors and family to both sugar and salt, as well as plenty of other addictions resistant to curbing.
I’m sorry to hear that.
I’ve lost mine to water. They drowned.
Anyone looking forward to this?
