My Stealthburner started making a grinding sound when extruding. It’s not the motor, but the gear attached to it. I cannot figure out how to stop it though. I’ve tried reseating it, adjusting the locking nut on the shaft, tightening, loosening. I’m hoping someone has an idea for me.

Are the teeth worn down? Maybe it’s time to replace the gears. (Throwing stuff at the wall here) other than that it sounds like maybe there is a piece of filament stuck somewhere rubbing against the gear?

My printer currently sounds similar, also the extruder (i3 Mega MK4 X-Carriage w/ DD). It doesn’t impact the print quality so far, but I really wonder what it could be.

In my case it’s especially noteworthy that it only happens sometimes, depending in speed and current direction of the head. Perhaps this really is the sound of a bad bearing, with yours being really fucked already?

It sounds kind of like a bearing. Maybe from the top metal gear. Spray some lithium lube into the bearing?
