So these kids will be going out in the galaxy on real missions before they’ve even graduated. I love the enterprising spirit that shows.

I can see going on simple missions as part of their training in their final years.
I think that kind of happened in the kelvin movie and I forget exactly the plot, it something similar happened in prodigy.
We’ve definitely seen cadets serving on ships a few times, and The Wrath of Khan featured a training voyage (though they didn’t seem to be going to anywhere in particular).
So I agree there’s precedent. I was really just stretching for a way to cheekily suggest the name.

I think Uhura was also a cadet in SNW first season
actually, looking at the trailer there are 2 cadets of the Red squadron from USS Valiant in the wall:
- Karen Farris
- Dorian Collins, The sole survivor, though in the wall the appear she is listed as ACPO (acting chief petty officer).
Unfortunately the wall seems to be more an easter egg than anything meaningful.

If they’re really going to join the fleet from time to time, maybe we’ll finally see this era’s Enterprise.
Honestly impressed with Discovery’s restraint in not showing it to us for their last three seasons.
It seems like doctors. 4 years of classes, 4 years of hands on residency in hospitals.
