I didn’t think my cats would care, but since my dog died, Maze has been … Aggressively affectionate. To the point that I need to shoo her away if I need any alone time. She wasn’t this loving any time over her past fifteen years or so of life and didn’t seem like she cared about the dog, but she’s been completely transformed since then.
Critters can surprise us like that.
My cat, back when she was still around, was not fond of the first dog we had here. But when that dog died, she would wander around looking for her. They also pick up on grief as well.
Our second dog, when that cat died, spent days looking for her. Even though the cat pretty much owned the dog. It was over a year before that dog would not get excited and look around when we’d say the cat’s name.
It’s odd. Maze has outlived three of my dogs now. She didn’t react like this to either of the previous two, though she appeared to be affectionate towards them when they were around. I never really saw her interact much with the third, but as I’ve mentioned to you before (thank you for all the support, BTW), she was cuddling with me when the third was gone before I realized he was gone.
She hasn’t voluntarily left me alone since then. I even have some pictures of a few nights after he was gone when she was laying next to me and, no matter what position she took, wouldn’t remove her back foot from me. I lock the cats out of my bedroom, but almost every day as soon as I get up, she comes running to sit with me.
