I use bitwig and davinci and they work great. not sure what you mean by “applications that aren’t complete janky shit.” there are a ton of applications available on linux, both paid and free, and their quality varies as much as anywhere else.
but we’re talking about desktop users.
the way things are, things have to be completely unusable for the average user to care. people are still on reddit and twitter and facebook after all.
they could still do with some fixing

You are fine. They are just two different types of storage devices. The names are the way they interface with the motherboard. Since there is nothing on the laptop, you have nothing to lose by experimenting. I would choose the pcie drive. It should be faster, and it has more space on it.
