This take only works if the new media is reporting on Trump accurately and factually.

The problem is that they are not. Organizations like the New York Times and the Washington Post spend most of their wordcount trying to wrangle the vile nonsense that Trump is spewing into something intelligent and legible, often by lying or misrepresenting his words. They’re not reporting his atrocities, they’re whitewashing them, and we should absolutely call that out as complicity.

  • There are no laws for them. It has been made abundantly clear, time and time again, that the rich and powerful do not need to follow the same laws that us plebs need to. There is no court that will prosecute their crimes, no politician that will fight to defend us from them. The only option left is violence.

  • Hey why can’t we hope for a larger reform? It’s not like police reform is an impossible concept, just having oversight boards staffed with the civilians cops are meant to be protecting would go a long way towards curbing police brutality, as it would actually allow prosecution and consequences for bad officers.

Sending good people to get framed/killed/terrorized by bad cops on an individual basis is far less likely to enact any meaningful change than supporting and voting for local police reform.

  • Think about it this way; you meet a cop in an unexpected situation. You do not know this cop. Should you trust that this cop has your best interest at heart, and treat them as a fellow comrade? Certainly not if you want to live!

ACAB because if you do not make that assumption, you will get killed by one of the bastards and they will get away with it. If you want to get deeper into philosophy, we can talk about how all cops are complicit in a system that grants them limitless freedom to terrorize the populace, making even the nice ones inherent class traitors, but the simplest truth is ACAB is a motto that keeps people alive.

  • Don’t feel even an ounce of sympathy for these assholes. As someone who works adjacent to academia, we’ve been talking about the “enrollment cliff” for a few years now. The solution universities have come to is that they should cut admissions requirements to make sure anyone with money can enter their institution, and then do as much creative accounting as necessary to cover up students’ failing grades. They’d rather become degree mills than look at the real problem; their tuition costs.

  • We already live in a culture that glorifies constant violence. Roughly one person gets murdered every day in New York City, and dozens have been killed across the U.S. since the CEO’s death. We wait with bated breath for the next school shooting, or episode of police brutality, to fill the news with more poor bodies. I’ve even been personally affected, having to dive out of the way of a fleeing gunman to avoid stray bullets from his automatic.

The only thing that has happened is equality. The billionaire class that has fostered and profited from the culture of violence has had a taste of what we get to go through every day. If there is any slippery slope to slide down, it has been sloped by the bourgeoise.

  • The one and only time I phone police is after a car accident, and only because insurance claims require a police report to go anywhere. Even then, most cops fuck up the report or leave out important details, so it’s out of legal obligation and not actually wanting the service.

I’ve no idea why anyone would willingly call the police of their own accord. They will not help you. If you’ve been robbed, it’s already gone. If you’ve been stabbed or shot, you want an ambulance. If your spouse is abusing you, they’ll side with your spouse. Statistically speaking, U.S. cops do less than nothing for the communities they pretend to serve. It’s the equivalent of calling a motorcycle gang to solve your problems, except a motorcycle gang would probably be motivated to achieve better results.
