  • Yeah I really don’t know what a fair price for streaming is. They can charge what they want and I’ll pay if I think it’s worth it.

My current pattern is to keep one or two streaming services at a time and when I run out of shows I drop one and add a different one.

People are disappointed though that the service used to be a much better value. It’s like most things that start out good and become “enshittified” as the service provider tries to extract more and more profit.

  • The problem didn’t appear overnight and trying to “fix” it overnight is going to cause chaos.

Just one example: there was a bipartisan bill a few months ago that had most of the things republicans asked for. Trump pressured the republicans to not vote for the bill because he wanted to campaign on illegal immigration and do this kind of cruel and stupid shit when he got elected.

Trump doesn’t try to fix things, he just likes showy displays of power and cruelty because he’s a fucking asshole.

  • Obviously.

All the major networks covered this live. None of them covered the Harris rally that happened right after. Some did fact checking afterward. That’s after most people stop watching.

The reporters often asked useless softball questions, like asking him to comment about his upcoming interview with Musk.

When there was a serious question, he simply didn’t answer. There was one about abortion and he said he would answer later. There was one about whether an an abortion drug should be banned. He gave a rambling response that seemed to be about something else.

Compare this to a typical Biden press conference where the reporters are rude and yell out questions and push back and tell Biden that he isn’t answering the question.

The press is afraid of Trump and complicit with his criminal behavior and complicit in the ignorance of the voters.

  • There’s a documentary “King Corn” that talks about how US government subsidies to farmers for growing corn have made it so inexpensive that it creates a surplus and prices that are too low relative to other foods. This resulted in the proliferation of corn being fed to cattle and other animals, which makes them less healthy to eat but fattens them for slaughter sooner. Also corn syrup is so cheap to make it made soft drinks less expensive. These are large reasons why fast food was so inexpensive and so bad for you. Also surplus corn and corn syrup led to the creation of a lot of unhealthy breakfast cereals which are marketed to kids.

  • And unlike any other TV in your life, the Vision Pro can literally DRM your eyes — if you’re watching a movie in the Apple TV app or Disney Plus and go to take a screen capture, the content blacks out. It’s strange to experience a reality where big companies can block you from capturing what you see, even if all you’re trying to do is show people how cool it looks in a review. You can get around DRM screenshots on an iPhone by just taking a photo of the screen, but there’s no such off-ramp for the Vision Pro.

Hey, I found the reason why I would never never never ever buy something like this. It’s going to be the Black Mirror episode that forces you to watch ads.

  • I started using nebula which costs $30/year (discounted price, easy to get). It has some of the YouTube creators, shares revenue with them, has no ads, and isn’t google.

Sure it has a fraction of the YouTube content, but there’s more new stuff there every day than I could watch. And it isn’t toxic like YouTube.
