Windows user since 1994 (2 YO)
Linux user since 2008
recently “betrayed” by m$
2020 or 2021 switched to Linux but dual booted with winlol for compatibility
gamer, but not competitive
on 2021 succeeded to run everything on Linux
deleted winlol and use only Linux since
I have no significant other nor special someone besides my parents
@shalafi since I began on 2 Years old in 1994 until now I guess 31 years
And I really debugged, I really debugged, I never installed a pirated OS on my personal laptops but I stayed 5 years from 2012 on the support for the m$ club on my faculty & I still am but significantly less for winlol & more Linux, I met ms. Linux in 2008
I know you think 2 years old is too young but believe me, using the computer without being able to read anything used to be easy, especially when you have some assistance
@possiblylinux127 @pastermil in my life, I literally saw everything and am seeing more & will see more & more because of dumb people & non-techies who installed pirated versions of winlol, for example, ones without support for UWA meaning many software that depend on that feature but have essential functionnalities and a winlol version that accidently cannot delete anything, & more, so I advise you to stop recommending this to people
@ragebutt @TheLeadenSea don’t forget steriotypes, history and old habits almost always work for non-tech savvy, for example, many people avoid Samsung devices because they explode in spite that even happened last time years ago, I know they still explode but it is a rare even and its causes are known
@clif Linux Mint is a popular migration destination because of how close its UI is to Winlol, but KDE is a close UI too to winlol’s, as for the software, if possible, one can use Wine or a VM until they get used to native Linux tools, with a little research, one can easily find a good alternative to almost anything
@clif @BCsven are you implying that Linux is not compatible with most things on winlol? I’ve yet to find anything that I need and is winlol only, everything either has a version on Linux or has a Linux-able alternative
There are many winlol-only things but none I need
For gaming, Linux
For office use, Linux
For media, definitely Linux…
@lung @AnUnusualRelic eh, had 4, 2, 1 and 0, on EndeavourOS when you yay right after you yay, or you yay after an hour
@GolfNovemberUniform @cm0002 sure do
Ah, it’s good to see Linux gaming evolving
@specterspectre plus, it doesn’t have any of the phones I own
@specterspectre eh, I’m not a developer, plus, tuto like this takes time that I hardly find
@specterspectre @michael_palmer or maybe a Huawei P5 pro
@specterspectre @michael_palmer also Samsung Galaxy A70, however, it is critical that I don’t leave it unusable since it’s essential for my work
@specterspectre @michael_palmer can you find an official custom ROM of LineageOS for Nokia X or Alcatel Pixi 4 (4")?
@cm0002 there’s another way: using a VM
@cm0002 eh, does that mean I can’t anymore tweak my Lumia? Fuck (yes I still have a Lumia, even many years after their death, it is still my best phone, android can’t compete, an android, and I mean all of them, lags like hell on 2Gb RAM, the Lumia runs super smoothly with 1 Gb RAM)
@sockman @prettydarknwild winlol? 🤔 it’s a penguin 🤨
@AndrewZabar in 2024, you just yay -S nvidia-inst && nvidia-inst & everything works so they are no longer a problem
@AndrewZabar using EndeavourOS, for example, searching how to install the Nvidia drivers, you can find old results such as installing nvidia-dkms… yay -S nvidia-dkms, that could have been useful 3 years ago but now it breaks the display, you should instead yay -S nvidia-inst && nvidia-inst & everything will work perfectly
@djdarren @woelkchen I migrated my #Linux many times between distros and I also do the same thing: I never have a seperate /home partition so I backup everything on /home on a seperate drive + other things & after I standard install the new distro, I live boot from USB & replace the new /home with the new /home content
