Oh, whoops. That’s what I get for skimming :).
If you found HL1 dated, there’s a good remake in source: https://store.steampowered.com/app/362890/Black_Mesa/
Even as a purist (HL1 is my favorite FPS period), I love how Black Mesa handles the source material. It’s on sale for $5 right now too. Besides Valve’s other games, check out F.E.A.R (2005), Doom series and the Bungie Halo games.
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.” Matthew 7:15-17
This verse pops into my mind when fellow “Christians” praise Trump. It saddens me that they are happy to help a crook and a rapist into power, all because “the Democrats are worse.” Elect a more morally upstanding republican then! Why does it have to be THIS guy?
I question if they ever actually read the Bible with an open mind… after all, wasn’t Satan the one to tempt Jesus with earthly political power? Even if Dems were worse, didn’t Christ call us to love our enemies? They’ve completely lost the plot, and then wonder why the Western church is in decline.
If you want to try an FPS, the original Half-Life is amazing (if visually dated), and was designed to ease the player into the experience as opposed to something like Doom or Dusk that throws you into the action without any tutorials. I’m biased though, Half-Life is my favorite FPS of all time lol.
It goes on sale for around $2 regularly, which is a nice bonus. I second the Portal and Stardew recommendations of others too.
Sifu is a fun martial-arts focused game. If you liked the combat of Sleeping Dogs and Batman Arkham, it might be your kind of game. It’s currently on sale for $20: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2138710/Sifu/
DRG. Rock and Stone!
Oneshot, Undertale, Mother 2 and 3 are games I think about years after playing them, great worlds and characters. Super Metroid too, the ambience alone still strikes a chord with me.
I’ve heard 3 is good too, but challenging so maybe not for a first entry.
Star Wars: Empire at War is a classic with more nontraditional gameplay and light 4x elements (no diplomacy). The modding scene is rich too, with Thrawn’s Revenge for the EU and multiple Clone Wars mods.
I mean, it’s more humane than the mermaid farms…
Cool, makes it much easier to visualize how living on a spinning globe works.
