  • Also, while we’re at it, reform the DMCA to disallow automated copyright related takedown requests without some sort of human reviewing it at the other end. It’s been abused to hell and back by big business.

Itch.io shared on hackernews that they apparently sent a report for fraud and phishing, not copyright infringement. So sounds like funko was abusing the system even if automated copyright claims weren’t a thing.

Ok maybe a very stupid question but

The press freedom group Reporters Without Borders on Thursday announced

Isn’t that gramatically incorrect? Shouldn’t it be “The press freedom group Reporters Without Borders announced on Thursday”?

I see this kind of writing a lot in news articles so surely it’s not actually wrong, but that’s not how I was taught English writing.

  • There’s no indication that any of the apps were available through Google Play.

So it’s just users installing untrusted apps to their phone?

scour infected phones for text messages, contacts, and all stored images

They also can’t do that without the user explicitly giving the app permission to do those things, unless they found an exploit or something, but the article doesn’t say that.

Also, why would you have images with passwords in them on your phone anyway?

People really should know better nowadays than to do any of this shit. Every step here is preventable by the user just thinking about what they’re really doing.
