  • Tiktok is worse because Facebook and Twitter cooperate with governments to remove misinformation. As well as allow governments to review their algorithm.

Misinformation is going to exist. What’s bad is when a platform is pushing it intentionally and your government has no power to remove it.

Even small countries like New Zealand were able to work with Facebook to get content removed.

You could argue that Twitter and Facebook are now doing exactly what tiktok is accused of doing but the difference is that the next American president supports them promoting this misinformation.

  • Yeah the report I mentioned found long work hours, health and safety, abusive management to be an issue. Foxcon seems to have addressed a lot of the issues brought up in that report. Even if they didn’t its still not slavery or not anything remotely similar.

  • Fizz@lemmy.nztoFediverse@lemmy.worldWow Mastodon is under 70% now.

Its wild to me how active lemmy feels compared to mastodon. I told my normie friends about it when I found out about it during the migration and they insisted that it would die and recently I was able to update them and say its still going strong and its got its own unique vibe that feels different from reddit.

  • I would also like to see people punished for their warcrimes but considering most of the Hamas leadership is dead and Israel considers international law to be a suggestion I think there is some chance of that.

I dont think casualties rates are relevant when considering a prisoner exchange rate.

I’m mad here at this ceasefire because it’s an artificial end to the fighting. Its peace for the sake of peace and does not resolve any points of conflict. With no security arrangements and no sovereignty agreements the war has achieved nothing and both sides are taking 5 steps back. With no satisfactory off road provided for the Palestinian people there is no option to for them to develop and thus they will continue to repeat the cycle.

I followed the different negotiations and there were times where both sides has reasonable proposals with 1 unagreeable part that neither side would budge off and the deal fell apart. If they had just come to an agreement on that 1 part they both could walk away with progress but instead we get this ceasefire where both walk away with nothing.

I hate the ccp as much as the next guy but these workers are being paid and given benefits. Its not slavery. It doesn’t help to make false statements like this. If you want to attack foxcon there is plenty of actual points.

For example you could bring up the fair labor report that happened after this controversy and examined 3 foxcon factories in China and found that while workers starting wage was above minimum wage and most of the workers were far above minimum wage majority of the employees still said their salaries were not satisfactory to cover their needs.

Also foxcon addressed the concerns of that report after the investigation was concluded. Including improving health and safety, worker pay, hours worked and benefits.

Its far from slavery but its not denmark working conditions. However if I was Chinese I wouldnt say its a bad job. Lots of hours and decent wage + option of living on premises is good. The suicides definitely are not related to working conditions or we would see at least 5x more per year.

  • This ceasefire is way to generous to Hamas. Its far more than they deserve. Hamas get a ceasefire with no concessions on their end and a prisoner swap of 30-50 per 1 Israeli. The mediators say it’s likely to go through but id be very surprised if isreal accepts it.

With no security arrangements I wouldn’t be surprised if war breaks out again in less than a year.
