I think their point was that in a way, patents are supposed to be more equitable because it allows the inventor to meet their basic needs by being the one to invent the patent.

There’s also the argument that while innovation skyrockets after a parent opens up, there would be less incentive to invent new things if Walmart could just copy it for cheaper the day after you show how you make it.

Or people would be super secretive with instructions for how to make their products that innovations could die with their creators since they have no incentive to release it.

What’s sad is that this is a consequence not just of this admins shittiness but of a long enshittification of our government.

Not only do government jobs pay a mediocre salary until you get really really far in the org, a fact that only gets worse as the idea of a middle class lifestyle gets gutted, but for decades now, working a government job has become less and less prestigious. It used to be that there were always plenty of loonies who found pride in being a “public servant” and thought the best place to use their genius was in government.

Now, as we see, there’s no one in these positions with even cursory knowledge of how these programs work.

And there’s definitely no millennials or zoomers fresh out of tech school that would debase themselves to working in government who would be able see these flaws in two seconds.

Because in real life they would have to have a walkie talkie moth on the moon and that takes too long duh.

Fun fact: moths don’t actually fly towards flames/lights. They have an instinct to orient their backs towards the light, presumably so that they can fly parallel to the moon at night which keeps them parallel to the ground.

This is how I think of it. I’m not arguing on the Internet to change the person’s mind. I’m arguing to make sure anyone reading the thread in the future doesn’t come away with the impression that the other person’s argument is flawless.

I’m happy to end an argument by just repeating the facts that the other person is getting wrong. I know their mind isn’t getting changed but I hope that anyone that comes along later will be able to read the thread and clearly understand the logical disconnect the other person’s argument has.

Especially arguing against someone in certain subcultures like the manosphere, yeesh. Their arguments are so subjective and centered around feelings that often all you can do is point that out and hope someone who comes along later sees that their arguments really make no sense.

It’s a catch 22. Nobody wants the cum of the celebrities that would do it and no celebrity who people want the cum from would do it.

That’s the point of this post. That’s fun for me too. But if you’re living with someone, you’ve found out what their opinion on free will and almost every other deep conversation you could have with them in the first few years. How will it look 15 years later? Either you rehash the same conversation about free will multiple times a day or you wander around the same house in abject silence for months until one of you can think of a good continuation of that 20 year long “what is the meaning of life?” conversation you’ve been having. Instead just learn to small talk, life is long and it’s nice to have the affirmation that a loved one still pays attention to and cares about your day to day.

To me, what this comic is saying is that even if you’re able to debate someone out of believing in God it’s cruel to do it to someone like your mom who has God as the central pillar of their emotional well-being.

It presupposes that you’re able to “prove” that God doesn’t exist and to me it doesn’t necessarily paint the idea of being an atheist in a negative light, just the neckbeard atheist attitude that you should try to emotionally destroy people who do believe in God.

It’s a three panel comic so yeah, it’s a bit ambiguous, I just think that people are missing that the punchline is really only funny from an atheist perspective. From a Christian perspective the comic is awkward. The last panel wouldn’t be a punchline and wouldn’t make sense at all, how would these obviously loser neckbeards be able to prove God doesn’t exist?
