  • Important

On your phone (iPhone and Android) there are options to set an Emergency contact. This contact shows up on the lock screen of the phone including their phone numbers, and at least on my android device those number(s) can even be called without unlocking the device. I have my wife and father.

This can be really helpful for first responders if you’re involved in an accident or have a medical episode that leaves you unconscious, or even if you’re just seriously hurt and you can’t call someone yourself easily.

  • The simple answer is most desktop PCs will not come even close to that at idle. Even just having a few case fans may draw more than that, without involving the CPU at all.

Laptop devices can do that in some cases with their extra power management features.

That being said, do the math to see if it matters. The difference between 10w and 40w is 0.7kwh per day, at least where I live that’s about 7 cents or about $25 per year.

In my case it would be more expensive to purchase a dedicated low power device than it will save me in 4-5 years compared to just using something I already have laying around.

  • Again, bad example.

In emergency situations, the vast majority of people do absolutely nothing. There’s a reason why during first aid training one of the most significant things they teach you is to call out a specific person, and get them to call 911, and double check that they actually do it.

I’ve quite literally seen a pregnant woman fall on an icy sidewalk outside a building, and a dozen people walked by before I got there to help her.

You see it all the time with car accidents too, someone crashes, and way too many cars try to drive around so they don’t get stuck in the traffic jam when the emergency crews arrive. Maybe one in 10 people will actually stop and try to help.

You vastly overestimate how much people care about strangers.

  • Bad example. Most people don’t care about the person that serves them coffee at all. You also wouldn’t change your behavior to improve the relationship between Barista and Customer.

People are selfish, and almost everything they do is selfish. However, most people are smart enough to understand that being openly greedy and selfish is not the optimal path to getting the most they can for themselves. It’s the prisoner’s dilemma on a population scale. If everyone agrees to mostly get along, everyone does better individually.

The only exception to this tends to be very close family like a parent, a child, or maybe a sibling. Even those aren’t guaranteed though, lots of people treat even their close family poorly and don’t care about them.

  • Israel was created as a state by the UN after the other people who lived in that region (Formerly the Ottoman Empire) fought for the Axis and lost in the world wars.

There were other territories that were also carved up and handed to other countries, and you don’t see the same issues there because their neighbors didn’t invade them because they were unhappy with the borders drawn by the UN.

Israel has quite literally been under attack by multiple other countries since it was created.

  • Yea, don’t put that in your soup as is. It’s not going to be great.

You really don’t want to be taking big bites of extra-firm at one time, it needs to be small or thin and integrated into the rest of the meal. Treat it almost like cubes of ham, except it doesn’t add flavour so the flavour has to come from elsewhere. (And chicken soup generally isn’t a heavy flavour)

What about other meals? It can be great crumbled into ground beef for use in things like tacos. Or crumbled into an omelet. Small cubes in a heavy sauce like spaghetti or curry are great too.

  • The packaging doesn’t state the firmness? It should have one of: Silken, Soft, Medium, Firm, or Extra Firm.

The note about baking leads me to believe it would be firm or extra-firm

Honestly, If that’s the case, what I would suggest you do is not put it inside the soup. That would be far better with a soft or medium tofu. Instead, like a lot of people have been suggesting, fry it and serve it on the side like you would with gyoza.

My favorite option for medium-firm and firm is to coat it in a light layer of starch (corn starch is what we use here, but potato or rice starch would work too) then shallow fry it in a bit of neutral oil (Canola, Peanut, Vegetable, etc.) until the sides just start to turn a bit brown. Then put it on a side plate, and if you have a bit of teriyaki sauce for dipping it’s great. If you don’t have teriyaki sauce, you could put a little soy sauce over it (or use soy sauce to make teriyaki sauce, it’s really easy)

Second option, especially if you don’t like the oil/frying part or want to cut the calories, is to cut it into strips and bake it in the oven after covering it with a glaze of Miso paste and a smidge of honey.

  • Not really what?

If the US government drops support for Israel, it’s going to get attacked by Iran.

Iran has stated this publically, and it’s not some idle threat, they’ve been attacking Israel even with the support in place.

If you think that the US population is mad about Palestinians dying in gaza, just wait to see how upset they will get when the people dying are white and being killed by an Islamic state invading.

The reason the adults from the 40s supported Israel is because… That’s when it got invaded by multiple Islamic states.
