I am continually surprised over what basic features - like recording from an audio sink and a source - are not implemented on these devices that so many billions and years have been spent on developing.

It’s as if… sanity and user requirements were not the main design guidelines :o

The recent update on my Motorola made sure to tell me how awesome it is that it has per app volume control. My Nokia N9 was made in 2011 and had individual application volume control out of the box.

God I want call screening like Google has it. If I don’t have the number in my history or contacts, just quietly screen the call, hang up if it’s a scam and buzz me if they reply and are not obviously a scam.

This is what Pixel phones can do. Samsung has the screening thing but it’s manual and it’s not nearly as good

I had call recording on my Samsung devices for years, up until the beginning of last year when they broke all the third party recording apps…

It would be really nice to have that back.

I think it was google that fucked it up. The newest (as of a long time back) version of Android broke it and I had to install a separate app to get ACR working again. And it never recorded their end properly unless I was on speaker or their side was somehow audible through my mic. So stupid.

Indeed. I’m in a single-party province, it’s perfectly legal for me to record the phone calls that I’m part of, but years ago Google decided “I am the law!” And took that away from me. Super annoying.

The article says Samsung’s version still isn’t as good as how it used to be back then, but perhaps it’s a step in the right direction.

Samsung phones had this for years but only in specific regions. I live in the Netherlands and have changed my phone’s CSC to Vietnam just to unlock call recording. It works natively in the dialer since Android 10 or older. I had it with the Note 9.
