I’m not gonna lie. I would watch the hell out of a show where wacky steam punk inventors find out about the unfortunate laws of physics and thermodynamics.
When breaking it down it down technology actually IS just hot water and clocks.

Yeah, but think about it. Most energy nowadays comes from basically very hot water (steam) that runs through a turbine-driven generator. And integrated circuits are just very complex clocks.
Burn coal, make steam, use steam to turn tubine, generate electricity, transmit electricity, receive electricity, pump into alarm clock, vibrate crystal, count vibrations, tell time. Checks out.
So basically modern day technology is Steampunk?
