You also kill dogs, I think that was a factor. Also I was like 6, not exactly old enough to grasp the historical context or moral ambiguity of murdering murderers. But yeah, “love the sinner, hate the sin” is a major tenet of Christianity, even if seemingly no one practices it.

In Germany the original Wolfenstein used to be kinda illegal (there is a sutle difference which is not the point here), because of the “fascist propaganda” facepalm. Still… It was the first 3d shooter I had and I mostly shit my pants, because I was 6 years old xD

It was because it showed Nazi symbols. This was applied for a long time for games sold in Germany and Austria and even accidentally for Switzerland (it sometimes gets convoluted in there because of the German-speaking part).

Funny that they considered a game where you kill fascists as “fascist propaganda”. Like, without the propaganda, how do you know they’re fascists?

For a long time, Germany treated any mention of nazis or depictions of swastikas as basically infohazards, scp style. You can’t become the fascist if you don’t know what a fascist is, or so the thinking went. Imo a lot of what was really happening was German guilt and attempting to hide history from their youth.

My Christian parents would ground me for an entire summer for watching the Simpsons.

But if they wanna watch Oz in front of me where a prisoner rapes another prisoner and then hangs himself, then somehow that’s not as bad as the Simpsons?

In highschool I had an ultra religious friend who saved up for months to buy Final Fantasy III (6). He was having a great time playing it until about halfway through, where you have to talk to some demons to escape from a dream world. Even though you end up killing the demons, it was too much for him and he destroyed the cartridge with a hammer.

I find it immensely hilarious that out of all the crazy shit in FF6 like suplexing the train that takes people to the afterlife, abducting a feral kid from the Veldt, plots with mind control tiaras, Moogle genocide, Kefka poisoning an entire castle full of people, and a globe-trotting homocidal octopus, it was the Three Dream Stooges that were the last straw for your friend.

…That game actually comes off sounding really weird if you try to describe it in a single paragraph.

You’re Your dad would have liked Killing Floor 1/2. They are very gory coop shooters where you kill mutant demon things.

The CEO would agree as he’s Christian which explains why sadly the soundtrack is made of lame Christian metal. But that’s OK, when I used to play it, would cut the game music off and blast albums like Behemoth’s “The Satanist”. It fits the game and completes the atmosphere.

I’m excited for it. I usually don’t find FPS games that are primarily PVE very enjoyable, but Doom is the major exception.
