The U.S. is providing a $20 billion currency swap line with Argentina’s central bank — essentially exchanging stable U.S. dollars with volatile pesos.

While Argentina poses little systemic risk, it can still matter in terms of flight risk for capital along with volatility in debt and commodity markets.

In addition to economic and market matters, the U.S. has a significant political stake in what’s happening in Argentina

    Wow, so we “saved” money with fElon’s “doge” cutting things like US AID (thus ceding a lot of soft power to China - some real nine-dimensional chess on the part of Taco and fElon, I’m sure), only to turn around and spend billions on this?

    I’m sure the people going without food in this country (especially if they supported Taco) will be comforted that untold amounts of money is being spent on tackling and disappearing landscapers and billions are being spent on bailing out Argentina.
