I am enjoying this series so much. We are only 2 episodes in and it’s just so creative. Only watching one a week as I understand it’s sort of depressing but it is gorgeous.

I honestly only kind of care about the “story” and just want to watch a documentary about all the weird shit happening in the environment around them.

It’s an incredibly inventive setting. I’m struggling with the animation a little, I think it doesn’t do much to convey emotion; faces all seem weirdly stiff (especially coming off the back of Pantheon), but I really like the art style and the way the world is depicted. Very Ghibli (reminds me especially of Nausicaa).

I watched this over my Thanksgiving break and am so in love. There are so many themes and ideas to dissect. I wish I could find a viewing party or discussion group about it. That’s how I found your post.

I’m no great thinker, but I’d love to hear others thoughts on what I see this series positing. Are there always bigger predators? When can you trust your understanding? What does survival look like, and how do you know you have achieved it? What really drives us, biology or intelligence?

We got to the end and it was so enjoyable straight through. The characters, the setting, yes it’s not a very optimistic story but there is certainly hope worked in throughout.

    spoiler

The way the robot Levi just adapted and went native, compared to the way the human Sam literally died rather than adapt and give up what he thought of as his self was interesting and also the old lady who put him back together seemed like a future Ursula, she would have known/remembered what he did, right?
