That’s not uniquely American though…you’d easily pay 5EUR for an espresso where I live, and it will just be OK. A cup of filter coffee is also around 5EUR.

Are you not American or just rural? A cup of basic black in a city ain’t cost 2 dollars for like 5-8 years. Probably even longer.

An espresso is AU$4 at my favourite local cafe, but their coffee is pretty good since they roast it themselves.
