This happens where I live and I keep wondering how crazy I would be to complain about it. The parking spots aren’t long enough for trucks, so they back in and completely cover the sidewalk. I need to use mobility devices to get around and usually have to fight my way through the grass because there isn’t enough room for my walker. I’m not looking forward to this fight when snow is on the ground

As much as I love this idea, especially the suggestion to place it like a parking ticket, I have less dexterity in my hands than I do in my legs lol

Maybe I need to befriend a few neighborhood urchins xD

Note, do not steal them, just lay them on the ground under the truck so they can retrieve it. Reality is that they almost certainly won’t look at all before leaving and never know where it went.

Leave a roll of danger tape on it with a few feet dangling. By the time they get down the road it’ll be a lot more.
Enviromentally terrible but it is a maximum asshole move. fuckem.

Nah that’s extra effort that shouldn’t be required, especially for anyone with mobility issues. Leaving it in is just asking for it to be stolen anyway. Just put it on the ground right under. Not stolen, just moved out of the way, and they’ll inevitably not check and leave it behind. Probably never even notice until they try to use it to tow something again.

I get it, but what’s the difference at that point? May as well just start collecting them. Once you get enough, sell em for scrap.

Or you could just take the pin. On the odd chance one of these clowns might actually tow something, the towbar would come out when they pull away.

The difference is effort. Just dropping it over the ground is the least effort to accomplish getting it out of the way to move by. And not going out of your way to put it someplace else. You aren’t committing a crime in the process by stealing anything. And they’re likely to not check and just leave it there anyway for a punishment later when they notice it missing.

Taking the pin out means it’s no longer secure, it could fall out on the highway, damaging an innocent vehicle following at a later date.

Yeah I think it’s time for an urbanism community here on Lemmy. I’ve been on the fence but I’m all for spreading more awareness that things like this are not normal.
