Rewatched the original, it’s a bad movie, the only good things it has going for it are: a killer soundtrack by Queen, a cool premise, the actor playing the bad guy is just a joy to watch. Being better than the original is easy, except for the soundtrack, it is just unreachable.
First off, you’re wrong. Second off, it has held up better than The Crow. Third, you’re wrong.
Just because people say there’s no such thing as a wrong opinion doesn’t mean that that’s actually true, and I’m going to use your response as evidence thereof.
All kidding aside, which yes I am kidding, I respect your right to have your own opinion about the movie. It’s not even in my top 20. I just think that it’s a very good movie, specifically for the time and the framing that it was placed in.
It told at the time what was a very new and interesting story with a crossover between fantasy and modern reality and bringing computers into fantasy story was basically unheard of at the time.
It realistically approached the concept of immortals in the modern world, while telling the backstory of the immortals, and explaining why we should care about the protagonist, and wedging in a love story and romances, the mentor’s training saga of the traditional Hero’s Journey, a bunch of fight scenes, and it did all of that without being a 3 movie franchise.
It’s an incredibly ambitious movie, and in my opinion, just because it did not reach the highest heights, does not mean that it did not scale a mountain.
On a scale of one to five, I would honestly give it a four.
The acting is pretty good.
The storyline is interesting and unique.
And you also have to take into account what was available to the writers and the movie producers at the time.
