Today’s game is some more Wind Waker. With my limited library of games, it seems like this is going to be my game for a bit (at least until next Sunday). Though I do have Silent Hill 2 Remastered installed along with The Last of Us, so those are things I’ve also been cracking away at. I did the forsaken fortress today and even went to Dragonroost.
The Fortress I always dread due to the Stealth segments. It wasn’t too bad this time, though. I did manage to clear it without much trouble. I did get turned around for a bit, though, and couldn’t figure out where to go.
Once Link got his ass beat by Big Bird and washed up at Windfall, I went exploring. I mean, sure, Sister’s in danger and Magic talking boat is telling me to hurry. But I should stop and smell the roses. This guy here got me. He told me to open my heart and stop and take a break. So I stood with him for a bit. At least until I went to break creepy but lovable Tingle out of jail for the sail.
The overwhelming Bloom makes a return here. It’s a real shame because the dark areas of the game look gorgeous and amazing, and then the daytime looks like someone smudged the lens. It still looks really good despite that, and it makes me wonder if there’s maybe a mod to help balance the overwhelming bloom.
I set sail for Dragonroost shortly after, and this brings up another one of this game’s flaws in my opinion. It has few flaws, but some pretty big ones. The amount of sailing is one of them. I love sailing in games (it’s one of the reasons AC4 is one of my favorite Assassin’s Creed games), but this game has so much of it with not much in-between that it can really bring the action to a halt.
I ended off tonight by getting the Wind God thing first instead of putting it off until midway through my playthrough like I did last time I played. I felt like that was a perfect place to stop so I don’t end up starting a dungeon I don’t think I could finish tonight.
Even with the warp ability it feels like you still have to do a fair amount of sailing because the warp locations are fairly spread out. I can see double speed helping considerably, though.
Thinking on in some more and I guess another problem with the sailing for me is how often I had to stop and play the wind requiem. It really makes navigation a chore. I could see a mod that lets you change the wind direction much more quickly would help tremendously (maybe there is one, I have not looked).
The faster sail and having the wind automatically change to be the direction you’re sailing are both features I’ve seen people use with randomizer mods for the GC version, but I don’t know if they’re available without randomizing treasures.
