    I wouldn’t call an elected official becoming a war-time dictator a “coup” really.

      It kinda is within the spirit imo because while the means he did that were theoretically legal, practical abolishing of even bourgeois democracy without at least binding referendum is a coup. And that even before we get to how much treason is falsely presenting his programme (which again is normal or rather normalised in modern bourgeois states, but in older forms of democracy it was often considered straight up crime worthy of usually exile).
