Interesting hypothesis! I wouldn’t put it so boldly myself, but there is a type of person who relishes in holding authority over others, and given that most people are just happy to go along and get along, it makes sense that those who are motivated to boss people around would kind of monopolize positions of power and do everything they could to hold on to them.

I think at some point in history we forgot how to collectively deal with manipulative people, and now we need to learn it again
