I certainly don’t want to decide for your family how to live their lives, but five parties just so scraping by doing the payments on a hunting lodge seems miserable for everyone involved. Wouldn’t it be possible to rent one instead / buy one in a cheaper area / rent out the lodge when not in use?

I also wouldn’t consider a lodge in the middle of nowhere a residential building that should fall under those taxes when kept empty to drive up the rent.

Because the population decline is mostly a western societal phenomenon induced by the late stage capitalism we are suffering from, and our planet dying from our carelessness. Other countries, especially poorer ones, are still happily making babies. So “population decline” effectively means the decline of western populations, and I can see how people (including me) might have an issue with that.

If all populations would shrink proportionally the same it would be a lot less contentious.

If I’m sick I just go to their practice during consultation hours. Without an appointment I have to wait a little, but rarely more than an hour. Then I get called in, the doctor takes a couple minutes to listen to me describing my symptoms, possibly does some minor checking, then writes me a prescription for whatever treatment I will need or a transfer slip to a specialized doctor.

For emergencies I can just go to the hospital. Oh, all of this costs me nothing at all, maybe a couple euros co pay for medications.
