This is what it looks like when the government doesn’t work for the people.
IMHO, part of the big problem is that this is a state budget. State budgets are much more restrictive than a federal budget. States can’t print money, and they’re stuck in a race to the bottom with other states in “incentivizing” big business to stay in the state and pay taxes. I feel like we need some proper income laws at the federal level to really fix this.
Health care workers in California were supposed to get a raise on July 1, part of a plan to gradually increase their pay to $25 per hour over the next decade. Now, if approved by the state Legislature next week, they could get that raise on Oct. 15 — but only if California’s revenues between July and September are at least 3% higher than what state officials have estimated.
If that doesn’t happen, the raise won’t start until Jan. 1 at the latest.
So brave. These people saved the budget with their own pay. Oh wait, no, fuck the health care workers…
