Orwell’s description of “doublethink” is extremely accurate. They know that the left is violent and wild, like really believe it, and they also believe that their opponents deserve death and it’s a good thing when it happens.
The brain is a powerful tool. Once you teach it certain self-deceptive patterns it will happily sabotage itself if that’s what you want it to do. Skillful use of language (“violence” versus “what they deserve”) is key.
